Is the sound of a driver something that bothers you , if it sounds rank would you not buy it even if you hit it really well?

I'm new to the game but know I couldn't live with the awful sound of some drivers as opposed to others that sound
Sweet .

The first few Callaway Multi-material drivers sounded so bad that I actually sold mine as I was embaressed every time I hit it.
The Nike SQ just split your eardums and Cobra's made 'em bleed......
Sound is important

If the ball is going hey diddle diddle right down the middle... Not too fussed what noise the driver makes...

Had a Cobra which is right up there when it comes to noise making... Handed it down to a nephew who is happy to use it as it works better for him than his latest model....

I have had 3 drivers since I took up the game.
Cleveland XLS Hi-Bore Monster - Sounds like hitting a golf ball with a baseball bat...really loud
Cobra S2 for me sounds nice when hit the sweet spot.
Nike Machspeed Black sounds ok.
My mate has a K15 and I like the sound of that.

I found recently that the Callaway ix tour ball and the r11s make a very loud piercing noise which doesnt happen with TM Penta tp5's or Prov1X's. I wouldnt use the callaway ball again because of that which is a shame as it is a pretty good ball otherwise.

TM R11 made a loud 'crack', was worse in a range, not for me I'm afraid, I grew up with the sweet sound of Balata on Persimmon, just lovely!

One friend bought a brand spanking new Cobra a couple of years back and said on the 1st tee for me to have a go with it.

I thought I'd broken it the noise it made I turned round and apologised to him!

If the ball goes long and straight, who cares what sound it makes? My Callaway Octane gives a good high pitched sound when I hit it sweet, which is nice, but even if it sounded like a wet fart, as long as I got a good 200+ and it's on the fairway...!

The driver does have a partot play in the sound when striking a ball, but the ball plays an important part as well. I normally play with Sricon AD333 and of the face of my R11 the sound is quite dull, but the other day I played at an unfamiliar course so played with any old rubbish I had in my bag and found that some Pro V 1's gave a loud tinny ping noise off the face.

So while different drivers make different sounds it's all down to the ball, soft balls have a dull thud while hard balls give a loud ping.

Er. I still have an Callaway FT3 (hideous 'clonk'!), A Cobra L4V (frying pan clang!) but sold (for £149 profit!) the Nike Sasquatch.

Performance beats sound, though bck to 'normal' with the Cleveland (their Hi-Bore was loud though).

One of the few areas where TM was consistently 'understated' (until recently?). 510TP and/or Superquad were great sounding/feeling!

I'm sure some are loud enough to damage your hearing , down the range with a tin roof certainly

I was told that some pros who hit drivers every day have taken to using ear plug for practice as it was getting bad for there ears. I have seen no evidence though.

Not realy a problem with my Persimmon woods I an playing at the moment:D

Persimmon woods? Now that's a make I haven't heard of - then again I wooden be likely to know being a luddite stuck in the past.

Actually can't stand the horrid hollow 'tink' sound some 'metals' make - abominations and one of the reasons I eschewed metals woods for such a long time. However submitting to progress I went Callaway Big Bertha (not so big these days) as my pro said it didn't sound too bad (it didn't). I now wield a Ping G10 off the tee and I must admit that the sound of it when hit right is pretty darn fine (or maybe it's the rarity of that sound I like!)

My first driver a Nike SQ 5000 made an awful racket sounded like hitting a ball with a bean can. My G20 is quite understated I think anyway.

My dad has a Cobra ZL Encore, that thing makes the loudest din you can imagine, awful listening to it when he hits it but flys true though.
