Driver dilema - advice please

So after managing to do this to my driver hitting it against the inside of the roof of the range :angry:

I need to sort a new driver out.

I only bought new irons a couple of weeks ago and so have considered buying another 2nd hand G2 but they seem to be going for more on ebay now than when I bought this over a year ago and I begrudge that.

I hit a few in direct golf the other day and the jpx800 came out the best but then these new TM models are out!

I hit a few with both new TM drivers and the R11s seemed to be best but am just a bit worried that it wont be forgiving enough. On the plus side with its adjustability hopefully it should last a fair while as I can change it as my swing develops.

(Also have a slight concern that I'll look like a bit of an "all the gear...." having new shinies AND a white driver but think I can live with that:D)

What do you think please forum??
 
There are that many people with white Driver these days so i would not be concerned. I cannot comment on the R11 as i have never used one but if you are going to spend that much on a driver get fitted for it. You really do need to get a shaft thats suits you.
 
How low is the range roof? Or are you very tall.

Have a look at the bargain of the last few months, the Mizuno MP 630 which is now around £70 as the new MP 650 is just out. Fubuki shaft and sits very nicely behind the ball.

Can't comment on Ping I'm afraid but get to a range where you can try a few.
 
I'm 6'6'' and I'm now guessing that the range roof is pretty low as well!! Will check out the MP630 -ta.

Will definitely go for a fitting if I go down the route of the TM but not sure where. The DG and AG dont seem to really know what they're on about. I was slightly more convinced by the guy at Leaderboard Golf, Reading when I tried some irons but not 100% and then theres the likes of Precision Golf or TM at Wentworth but they're £90 and £100 respectively.

Do you not get the fitting fee knocked off the cost of the driver if you buy?
 
I would certainly be having a try of the Ping G15 if I were you. I play a Titleist D2 but have hit the Ping many times as my brother in law has one and it is the easiest driver I have ever hit as well as being long. With the new Ping 20 range just released you could pick up a bargain

You dont get it knocked off at TM but not sure about Precision.

Cheers Chris - will give it a go. Have the G15 3 wood and tend to get on with it well.
 
Thanks MM - thats cheaper than elsewhere from the quick look I just had.

Spoke to Precision Golf and they dont refund that against cost of driver and with components for one of their drivers starting at around £350 its just a bit too much for me to justify at the moment.
 
HI. If you like the look and feel of the R11, try the Burner 2. More forgiving than the R11 but still 'long' because of the extra shaft length. Had mine six months, very pleased.

But as all seem to say 'get fitted'. The shaft qualities have as much if not more, to do with consistency, than the head.

Without wishing to appear rude, as a 23er, have you considered sticking with a 3 or 5 wood from the tee. You may lose 20 - 50 yards but hitting the fairway 75% of the time is a great score improver but more importantly keeps your spirits up and enjoy the game.

I take your point but to be honest if I'm not swinging well it doesnt seem to matter what I hit.:o

Until about 3 months ago I had mainly been using my 3 wood off the tee but struggled with it for a couple of rounds so swapped the driver in and its been fairly consistent. Hopefully this can continure and I can get to a stage where I can swap between the two depending on conditions etc.
 
Try callaway, I love mine, had an ft5 from when I was up at 17, and after many changes, tm, titleist, Nike, I'm back to callaway, think they suit my eye. Any way, u can pick up a driver like mine for under 100 ex demo. Worth a look, also I would suggest looking at a driver with decent loft 10.5-11 maybe more, as they tend to be more forgiving.
 
My G2 was 11.5 and I was getting on with it so thats another reason why I liked the idea of an adjustable - I can increase the loft for the time being and then adjust as things get better.
 
Good luck mate, just be careful with adjusting, darthvega did a thread other day about them and the increase and decrease in loft depending on open or closed face etc, have a look. Also, a lower lift doesn't alwaysean more distance, I play with a guy off 6 who is in his fifties who uses 11 deg driver, up the muddle most times and good yardage, just my opinion but some times adjusting can make things worse not better, but its your dough, enjoy looking at the shiney :)

I was going to post after I got back earlier something about a fool and his money.... but having just nipped up the range I'm more than happy to be poorer than earlier.

Went for the R11s after testing it against the RBZ again and it felt and looked better again than that and the others I tested the other day.

I would say about 70% of the "drives" I just hit I would have been more than happy with on the course. I know it applies to all clubs not to swing too hard but this seems to fly off the club with minimal effort.

I wasnt going to play in the roll up tomorrow as I cant really be arsed with no short game or putting to speak of (even though we wont be on temps) but now I might just change my mind:)
 
Ebay seems a good place to pick up the sort of driver you appear to need. G2 seems to go for £30-40; G10 for £50-60 ish.

If you've just bought irons, I'd suggest you wait a bit before spending the cash on a fitting. Making an assumption about your 'first handicap' status, you could well still be changing significantly, so would need a re-fit pretty quick.

Even if the Ebay purchase doesn't work out, you could bung it back on and try again for little expenditure - and that's a learning exercise that can be fun too.

I've been a dabbler (and had several fittings, so can recommend the process) for years but 'made the mistake' of hitting a G15 that I'd purchased off a mate to sell on Ebay. It's been in the bag ever since and there'll be no shaft changes!

Can't see the damage - as pic link fails for me, but, if shaft is undamaged, I've a G10 that you could you use existing shaft in (need to get shafts removed) or you could get a new shaft for the undamaged head. I'm not far from Precision and presume you are near Reading.
