Drinking at the golf club over christmas......???

After a round it's a mug of tea in the winter or a soft drink if it's a hot day. Never more than a pint of shandy if we're out for Sunday dinner

I couldn't live with killing someone or losing my license

thats pretty much it, the boys always yank my chain " oh and a latte for the lady " but the fact of the matter is i lost my driving licence through epilepsy, so i know what its like to be without it, could i be without it again... no on your nelly!

Coffee when its cold, cold drink or lager top if its hot providing im eating there too.

Friend of mine has 4 or 5 pints minimum every day at the club then drives home. He's been done for D&D twice, and its not made any difference to his attitude at all.

I'd like to see a zero limit so that everyone knows before they order their first beer that they will be over the limit. Yes, I know the body naturally produces alcohol, so set a mg/ml that covers that then anything over is D&D.

I live a £3 taxi ride away... taxi for me.

Does any one use the phone while driving? Statistically this is worse than drinking in terms of impaired faculties? Hands free apparently makes no difference at all.

Anyone smoke? Eat? Drink? Put on make up? Shave? Send texts? Redid a book, or a map? Play with a sat nav?

There are loads of things that are distracting, drinking for sure is one, but it is easy to get sanctimonious about one thing while ignoring others.

Set a zero limit and anyone who had a couple the night before could still register, even though they are well below the current limit and considered safe to drive.

If everyone observed the current limit I think that would be ok

Sweden has a zero limit. Seems to work there!. I dont drink and drive, or use the phone( its turned off and put in the glove box when driving). Dont have a satnav. If I need to use a map will pull over to use it. Driving is bad enough on the roads nowadays. Without added distractions. Dont even put the radio on find that a major distraction.

Watched an interesting thing that showed the effect of alcohol on a driver. They used the DVLA simulator to do it. They took a young man, middle aged and an elderly one. They got them to drive the sim to see how quickly they react to hazards when stone cold sober. They all passed fine with no accidents. They then had 1 pint each of average strength lager, they drank them then got back in the sim. The difference was unbelievable. The reactions times dropped so much they now started to react too late and risked causing accidents. They then had another pint and they had no chance of avoiding things like kids running into the road and people pulling out on them. Things that happen very often.

What that proved was even after 1 pint you are not safe to drive. You may think you are, but it was proved you are not. If you want a  leave the car at home or at the club. If you have such a drink problem that you can't be in the bar without having one see a doctor....

I think there's probably a few drink drivers at most golf clubs if we're honest.

I tend only to have a coffee after a game anyway and I get a lift! The lad I nomally get a lift from doesn't drink either but there are always a few folk having more than one then jangling the car keys on the way out the door.

If I was a copper I'd be at the gates of golf clubs every Saturday early evening waiting for folk.

now and again there is at our place wouldnt bother risking it

I only have coffee or a soft drink after a round. I couldn't live with myself if I knocked someone over or had an accident knowing I'd had a pint.

It cost me a lot of money to get my licence plus I need it for my job. I've had a couple of knee ops and for a while I couldn't drive, it was such a pain in the a**e relying on HID to go anywhere.

I don't do it. Finish my round and go straight home.

Just remove all temptation. I was involved in a road traffic collision in 2005 with a cyclist (not my fault). Unfortunatley he was killed and that left a mark on me that I'll never shift.

Although the accident wasn't my fault, I know that chancing a few beers then driving can have repercussions that affect other lives and familes, not just my own.

When I'm driving I don't drink - period.

Even 1 pint impairs driving, to some degree, and although mostly within legal limits, having any amount of alcohol in the system is risky.

I've said this before, there should be zero tolerance, as is in Sweden.

i havent seen anyone get in the car after drinking and driving home, but if i did, i would without a doubt say something. what if that person was to have a crash and kill someone on the way back........100% drink drivers should be banned and serve some sort of jail sentence!i know someone who was run over by a drink-driver, so issue close to home

I know people at the club that do it. I've seen the bar staff take keys off some. At the end of the day though its about personal choice and some will always drink and drive not only from a golf club, and not just at Christmas. HID doesn't drink and when she use to pick me up from the local pub would regularly get stopped. You can imagine their frustration every time. She kept telling them she was only giving me a lift and surely they'd have had a record of all the negative tests and to be honest it was annoying when they could be picking on the real drunk drivers.

The problem is until zero tolerance comes in (if ever) then people will be prepared to take the chance and then have to live with the consequence. Sadly though it is invariably they who aren't injured and its the life of an innocent family that gets blighted forever.

I was stopped by the Police on the way home one night.
They said they wanted to congratulate me on my good driving skills.
I explained that you have to be careful after 10 pints.

which i think is the only negative from this sport. me personally, i couldnt live with myself if i hit a kiddy or anyone while under the influence... yet loads of people really dont care.
This is what everyone needs to think! I'd shop everytime! It should be zero tolerance! Image you knew a guy had been drinking with you, driven home, hit your kid who's just been to the shop for an ice cream and now is on a life support machine! Shop them every time!
