No doubt many of us may have a few at the club with the lads over Christmas, but how many push the boat and still drive, and more importantly how many would say to someone.. " arent you over the limit"

I ask this as i was at a club on sunday, watched someone have around 5/6 pints after a game, then get in hes car and shoot off home. this was in the space of around 2 hours. me personally im an all or nothing kinda guy, if im drinking the car stays at home, if i drive, then its 1 pint max.

I agree OddSocks - I cant have just one - so in a way that helps as I know if I start I cant stop.

As I do not live close to the club I rely on my car to get me there and back. Therefore its a no brainer for me and I never drink at the club - cab fares would be expensive.

I think every club has a few that D&D. Its very wrong but I wouldnt have the bottle to interfere alas.

That would make you an all or 1 pint guy then!?
:D
I have left my car at the club more times than I can remember! We get on of the local guys wife to give us a lift or the staff are quite helpful.

I also have some warm clothes in the car and some towels for blankets so I can sleep there if needed.

Even after all that though, there probably is once or twice that I've 'pushed it' a little.

We often tell each other if someone has had one too many but it ends up being more of a running joke as quite a few of them drive regardless of how many they have had.

This is such a sticky point. Could clubs survive if they limited members to the amount they can drink.
I myself dont drink so its never been a issue for me. My playing partners, thankfully, only have halfs or shandy after a round but everyone knows the regular members that D&D.

I usually have a coffee or pint of coke weekly after a game, occasionally if I am last into the bar I have a pint of weak shandy sat waiting on me but that is my limit.

1 pint max ,i need my car to get to work it ain't worth it ,but i know guys who take a hip flask and then sit and have a few beers basically topping up from the night before, then jump in there cars ,god knows how they get away with it.

which i think is the only negative from this sport. me personally, i couldnt live with myself if i hit a kiddy or anyone while under the influence... yet loads of people really dont care.

I think most actually care - they dont want to run someone over and go inside for a stretch - but these people are too bloody selfish in thinking it would never happen to them.

About 3 years ago I went to a dinner at the golf club a few very good friends went too. Come the end of the evening 1 guy who was struggling to walk down the stairs said he was going to drive home, I offered to drive him home, as I don't drink it wasn't a problem but he was adamant he was going to drive. After much discussion! he threatened to punch me if I didn't get out of the way. I didn't move, there was no way he was driving. So I went outside and put my car bumper to bumper with his, now he was blocked in and the car wasn't going anywhere. I watched as he started to walk home then walked the other way to my house. It took him along time to say he was sorry through embarrassment. I would do that all over again, I could never live myself if he had run someone down. He now realises he was wrong.

None.

The law should be no alcohol at all, that way theres no 'I've only had 3, I thought I was OK' excuse. You give idiots an inch and they take a mile sadly.

I will not touch a drop if I am getting in the car. I know that I have an issue with 'lager momentum' and one will rarely stay as one so I have nothing at all. I cannot understand how our clubhouse bar survives as we are on the A1 and there is no way to get there without using it. I have never seen a taxi pull up or a dutiful partner sitting in the car park to pick someone up.

Hate drink driving but sadly I have until recently lived in a rural community where it is endemic.

if I'm driving then its NO alcohol, nadda, ZILCH, Nothing.

You have to be mentally deficient or selfish beyond belief to take the risk of taking another life so you could have a 'wee drink'

@jasondransfield, well done mate, you might have saved someones life and maybe your friends whole world as well.

I feel I'm quite sensible, so I will most of the time have pint of coke after a round, thought sometimes will have a single pint of lager.. One is my limit though if I am driving.

When I go for a night out and I have golf in the morning and know I'll be driving early doors I don't drink, I find an excuse to drive, I get a lot of negative comments for not drinking but it doesn't phase me really as i'd rather spend the day on the course than nursing a hangover.

Impairment is the only key fact with DD and there isn't a robust enough way to prove it, especially with how wishy washy our law is.
