Drinking alcohol on the course

Take my choice of words which ever way you want. But if you do not sink 2 or 3 cans on the course followed by another couple in the bar afterwards, then get in your car and drive home then it was not aimed at you.

By the way Picto read my post properly then comment next time. It clearly says that I do not have a problem with anyone who has a couple on the course followed by a few in the bar afterwards, as long as they then do not get in their car afterwards to drive home. So you may find you are the ignorant tool for commenting on a post you have not actually read properly.

The old boys do it all the time at my place, even more so in winter. Played with a couple of old boys in the winter league that sunk a hip flask each then another couple of pints in the bar then drove home. Most of the old boys at my place are doing it, you see them have 2 or 3 pints of ale then drive in the Tuesday/Thursday swindle every week. That is who my rant was aimed at.

So if anyone has taken offence for me calling them a mod edit then obviously you do have a few then drive and see no problem with it, so maybe the word is a good way to sum you up.

I did, in fact, read your post properly. To me it clearly implied that those who have a few cans on the course as well as in the bar go on to drive home well over the limit. That is of course, just my opinion and clearly not the intention of your post - so I apologise if I misunderstood.

I took offence with the use of the word mod edit, as to me it seemed you were bundling those with learning difficulties with those (who ought to know better) consciously choose to drive whilst over the limit. (Most) are born with learning difficulties and not a conscious choice - drink driving on the other hand is a conscious choice by, frankly, deplorable individuals.

I can think of much more appropriate four letter words that could be used to describe drink drivers than mod edit.

I will hold my hands up and the use of a certain word was maybe out of line and I apologise to anyone who took offence to it.

But I just have a real big problem with people sinking a few and getting in a car. I would have a safe bet that some of the people on here saying that they do drink on the course get in their car afterwards and drive, even though they would not admit to it.

No maybe about it - out of line.

As was the ridiculous assumption that anyone having a couple of beers/ nips on the course was automatically a drunk driver:

To all the people who drink a few on the course I hope the police are sat outside your golf club to take your licence off you. Because no doubt if you are the type who has to drink on the course you will sink another couple in the bar afterwards.

I have never had a beer going round the course, I find the game difficult enough as it is; I can't remember the last time I had so much as a single pint after a round to be honest as I'm generally driving and won't even risk 1.

The Vale of Leven has an excellent par 3 17th from a massively elevated tee (with superb views). A few times when the course has been quiet I got there to find a guy with a carry out, his sarnies, shag bag and a couple of irons making a day of it :)

Why would the police pull you over if you are not drink driving? I think that statement is pretty self explanatory to be honest.

Because no doubt if you are the type who has to drink on the course you will sink another couple in the bar afterwards putting you incapable of being able to drive a car safely. But I am not saying that everyone who has a drink at the club is a drink driver.

I have made that edit to my original statement incase you can't work out who that comment was aimed at.

Great hole that one.

I played in Japan two weeks ago during my annual family visit. There was a "halfway hut" at the 5th and 13th, which sold snacks and beer. We had an enforced 45 minute break after 9, where we had a proper lunch with beer, before resuming.

On occasions when I have played in the US, there has been a cooler box driven round the course full of snacks and cold beer.

Last year I played at Le Touquet, they drove a coller box around the course with cold beer in it.

Last year I played at Oldthorns, down in Hampshire, they also drove a cooler box around the course with cold drinks, including beer.

I don't agree with carrying a multiple bottles round and getting slowly sozzled as you go, nor do I advocate driving after if you do, but I don't have a problem with sinking a cold one on a hot summers day, it can make it quite pleasant.

People just need to chill a bit and have a quick cold one outside in this glorious sunshine :whoo:

The word offending so many, has many meanings in todays language. I'm sure he wasn't actually calling them people with 'learning difficulties'. :mmm:

If you really do oppose those that drink a few and drive home, and you have witnessed it. Then I'm sorry, your just as bad for not reporting it.

Of a winter I might indulge in something 'warming' from a flask... Of a summer I am quite happy with lemon squash...

Still like my ale but there is a time and place for every 'weakness'...

Don't like pubs/bars charging more for non-alcoholic drinks than alcoholic ones... Too many do in my experience...

I have wondered played 6 hole course next to some cottages we stay in in Cornwall a few times with a bottle of chilled New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc in my bag on a summers evening. And very enjoyable it was too. And I will no doubt have a hip flask containing the finest whisky there is (Lagavulin if you need to ask) tomorrow on my golf weekend break.

But normally I don't bother.

A golf course is not a place to get drunk.
It puts peoples lives at risk, mostly the drinkers.
If they have to drink on the course [above the one winter nip or summer lager] then I would suggest they have a problem.

Since joining my place i've never actually seen anyone swigging from a can while out on the course, although see a few cans/bottles in the bins.

It's the societies that crack me up. Regularly see an empty crate of lager sitting on the first tee after they have tee'd off at 9.30. I know it's a day out but really, after spending £20-30, the idea is to score your best round possible, not be in the nearest bush every 5 minutes.

I never really have time to have a beer on the course, usually either taking my shot or walking to my next one, so it's not really a conscious choice I make!

once a year I play in a charity day where invariably the buggy gets loaded up with a few cold ones and that is far more about being a fun day with mates than a serious game of golf (some of them play 2 or 3 times a year max) and ends with a long evening and most of us being pretty drunk (and not driving home!). Outside that I can think of the odd occasion I may have had 1 or 2 beers on a round on a hot day when offered, but tbh my golf is bad enough sober, don't need to make it any harder

When playing I routinely take 3-4 stubby bottles of cider & 2 half litre bottles water (& when I say routine I mean nearly always)

As mentioned already its very refreshing to crack open a cold one on the tee & as an adult I find it quite easy to have an alcoholic drink and control myself (& my empties) without turning into a drunken mess on the course

Most golfers play as a social pastime or hobby, not as a sport (even the majority of club comps) so I can't see there should be any taboo about it

having read the thread I find is strange that, in the context of alcohol being a drug and it's relationship to golf, the issue of coffee hasn't been raised earlier.

what is it with these people that have double expresso kickers before they go out, top up from their flask on the way round and are gagging for a strong filter at the hut, often before they have done 3 holes!

these people are wired, dangerous to everyone and clearly out of control with most clubs in the bag - have you seen jst how far they can hit a putt?

shouldn't be allowed

yet you ask for a decaf in most golf clubs and they look at you as if you are some sort of alien lol

........and we wonder why so many non-golfers don't view golf as a sport!!!!!!!!

Golf Course is for GOLF, Club House bar is for Drinking, simple

the amount of times i see empties laying in bushes and around the course pee's me off, i pay good money to use the course for golf not for someone to use it as their drinking spot/dump
