in all my years playing golf i have never had the urge to down a few cans as i play or have been in the company of those that did,i think it is a muni type golfer that thinks it is ok to down a few and drop there empties in the rough,if you cant go for a few hours without the taste of alcohol then i think you have a problem,as for having a few nips on a cold winters day fine unless your driving, a few years ago the police had a sting operation at the end of the golf clubs driveway and did 7 members for drink driving in the space of an hour after the captains comp,no excuse for drink driving.

Nothing wrong with a wee hip flask of something warming on a cold winters day! wouldnt go round with a 4 pack of stella in my bag though!

+1. Nothing wrong with a little winter warmer in the depths of winter, once it's warmer I'll enjoy a cold one afterwards but soft drinks only on the way round.

A couple of the courses i play in Ireland have half way huts, Castlerock and Portstewart normally nip in and have a few beers and let the groups behind us thru, as we're not used to it as we don't have it at my home course.

But some of the pub outings got ridiculous guys were that hammered ,remember one guy fell in the burn at the last at Pitlochry he was buckled ,a time and a place i suppose, used to a half a few bottles but not that extent as you had all night for drinking.

Its not about being able to go a few hours without alcohol! What a strange interpretation of sinking a cold one on a social occasion

How many members have posted on this site that they've used this forum while having a drink? By your standards they all have a problem! (for the record I have never taken alcohol while using this forum)

It's not about getting drunk or not being able to go a few hours without alcohol!! That would be a different thread entirely! So, for those of you who are preaching along those lines, would you please re read the point of the thread. It's about whether you want to have a couple with your mates during a round (and again, noone has mentioned a normal competition round), so lighten up a little, sit back and relax. No need to get het up over something which this thread isnt about.

Some people like to have a beer on the course, during a hot summers day if your not driving, why not! Each to their own, if you dont want to, you dont have to, simples.

I've never drunk on the course. Just doesn't sit well with what I'm trying to do. I'm not too fussed about what others do as long as they dispose of the cans considerately, aren't making regular stops to get rid of surplus intake, and that the course does their bit by providing adequate bins and empty them in a timely manner.

I see guys every week drinking more than the recommended levels, both in terms of their health and the driving laws. As I learned the hard way from my own drinking days it is very hard to take constructive advice in the way it was intended and so I let most get on with it.

I totally agree about the outings Steve. Some seem to assume a golf outing consists of getting as blootered as possible. It's a shame that a lot of clubs need the revenue and can't just tell the party to get on their bikes!
