Hello,

Can anyone help please?
I've been playing ok golf all year and hitting really sweet iron shot, but for some reason I've started sh***ing all my irons and I've no idea why.
What is the normal cause of this?

Cheers.

There are about 13 common reasons, and at various stages I have had them all.

Standing too close to the ball is probably the most common, as it leaves no where for the hands to go but nearer the ball.

My usual reason is that I am not clearing my hips through impact. Again, this leaves nowhere for the hands to go. If I hit with my hips square to the target, it chucks my hands out, and I shank it. Same whether it's a full shot, or a chip/lob.

Video for Bob to look at is the best bet.

Go get a lesson mate.... they might be able to advise your fault... i was the same towards end of last season its aweful i havent played yet this season due to injury but its really knocked my confidance i was / still am afraid to hitr a iron shot

I probably will get a lesson to be honest, but it's annoying as it's only just started happening on my last 2 rounds - however it's virtually every single shot.

I'm sure it can't be much as prior to these rounds I was hitting my irons better than ever.

A quick tip. Address the ball with the hosel behind the ball rather than the face of the club. This will encourage you to start the take-away more on the inside. Try this on the practice ground/range.

Whenever I get this what I tend to do is break my swing down from scratch and build it up again.

E.g. just hit 3 - 5 shots using the shoulders only (like putting)

Then let the takeaway develop further and hit some more.

Then some 1/2 shots...and 3/4 backswings.

And as you go build up the shot until you've got a full backswing.

The point at which your shots start going pear-shaped tells you where your fault lies (or at least it does me).

Normally for me it's trying to swing with my arms and not turning enough.
