DQ or not DQ?

I took it to mean that if you didn't yourself put your handicap on a stableford card you wouldn't get a lucky from your marker happening to write it in as part of calculating your net score.

Mind you, I was half through a "what's that about" kind of reply before it dawned on me

I don't understand that. What is different about stableford?

That threw me as well.

The difference being that the situation could well be:

The marker knows the player whose handicap is, say 18, so he knows he gets a shot on every hole, so he records the gross scores and, as usually happens, enters nett scores and points. The player agrees with scores/points and signs after the marker signs. Neither the player, who neglected to enter his handicap on the card, nor the marker - as it's a stableford - have entered the handicap. In the Medal situation, the marker would have entered the handicap when tallying the nett score but in stableford he doesn't.

May have missed something further back but it is the players responsibility to ensure his correct playing handicap is written on the card, one hopes, in the box provided no matter whether it is a medal, or a stableford (both are covered by the same rules - stroke play). Even if we have a comp that is not officially covered by the rules, players are told that they must enter their handicaps on the card or they will be DQ'd.

Yes, I know that. I was drawing a comparison between a medal and a stableford where the player neglects to enter his handicap. He can get lucky if the marker enters the handicap when tallying the nett score but not so lucky as the stableford tally does not involve entering the handicap.

I've seen this many times. The most common is where the player forgets to enter his handicap but goes on to circle the SI's where he gets a shot (or 2 shots as the case may be). The marker can gaily go ahead and mark the stableford card based on that.

On stableford comp days our cards will have your h/c printed on them. Your marker marks gross score for each hole, unless asked to do otherwise by the council. You check your gross score and h/c is correct and you both sign, the computer does the rest.
I don't think we have to mark the points scored.??

You need do no more than make sure your handicap and gross score for each hole are entered.
There is no requirement to calculate points, total gross or net.
In stableford there is no need to enter a gross score for a hole you do not complete or would score no points.
