The results are in after the first comp of the year. My 43 points with CSS 69 got me cut to 17.8.

So I no longer get 2 shots on any hole which my saturday 4 ball will be happy about!

Set out on wednesday with the sole objective to make sure I got cut at least 1 shot, as that would ensure I got from 19.6 to 19.3.

6 pars, 11 bogeys and 1 double bogey on our SI index 2.

Target this year is 14, so took a massive leap towards that in just one comp.

I'm a happy man!

Well played fella that's great news and a really good step forward. I'm trying to play with a mentality of I only get a shot a hole at the moment a that is where I think I should be. I have to say it's quite sobering when you are used to getting two!!!

Here's hoping you achieve your season's goal :)

Good work. Next cut will have you playing one hole off scratch!!!
Cant wait for the season to start for us and get the cuts rolling in. Think ill cry that first saturday if i knob it round...

Tiger - during the long winter months I came up with a master plan :)

Playing for a bogey on all par4's, par all the par5 and par all the par3(except for no.5 and no.10) would give me a total of 80.

worked a treat on wednesday, I was kicking myself after 3 putting the 6th hole for a bogey. Then I realised that I got a 5 which was my target score for the hole. Changed my mindset straight away and I par'd the 7th.

worked on wednesday, hopefully it works again.

Nice one, well played.

Im in the exact same position as you, i lost all my two shot holes during the course of last year. (25 down to 17.8)

No more moaning from some of the boys about two shot holes, "8 for 1 or 7 for 2!!! ive never had a two shot hole in my life" blah blah blah

good luck just keep playing the way you are and its not a problem.

O/P good start, carry on.

Is it common these days to play Stableford comps off full handicap?

Yes, medals, stabs and bogeys. In medals there is a stableford points adjust, which means you get cut based on stableford points not medal score.
Matchplay is mostly full difference now (singles and 1/2 combined in foursomes)
Our scrambles were 1/10th combined, 4 drives each minimum (this can vary with conditions of comp)
Betterball seems to be 3/4 still
Greensomes used to be something like 7/16 of highest handicapper and 9/16 of lowest handicapper (long time since I played in one).

If you're interested post a thread and someone might be able to confirm and correct the above.

Good shooting Sir, I came in second in your category a good 6 points behind and no handicap change

So with you being cut to under 18, that moves you from Div 3 to Div 2. leaving the way clear for me to clean up Div 3 next time ( evil laugh sound effect required)

All part of my cunning plan to take over the world

Ill go and have a lie down now

Good point - hadnt thought of that. Div 2 always has the biggest turnout too. Few of the guys I play with are that division so will be good to start competing with them.

Nice one Chris - knew 43 would be top of the list. Welcome to the ranks of the real golfer, those with no more than a shot a hole....

ducks and runs for cover.......
:ears::thup:

Came 2nd myself in Div 1 with 35 but still went up .1.

Still, it's a respectable start to the season

Sounds like a plan :)

Sorry to keep the self indulgence going, but the form continues!

79 this morning - 44 out and 35 back in!

level par on the back nine, was -1 right up to the last but missed a 10ft putt.

Decided to notify the clubhouse when I got in and they asked me to sign it and put it in as 9 shots under means they will need to assess my handicap. who knows, maybe another cut.

Grinning like a cheshire cat since I got in!

That is great golf, 35 back is very very good indeed
Agree the new handicap sec seems happy to carve away handicaps,
Knocked imurg down from 10 to 5 a few months ago.
You'll be in single figures soon
We shall have to arrange a game sometime
I'm playing imurg Thursday 9.04 if you are around
