Dogs

Last one I had was an Irish Wolfhound called Tess. sadly she had a stroke aged 7. Had dogs all my life but I was so upset at losing her I've not been able to contemplate another.

I've got a 4 year old cocker spaniel ( Dexter, named after the serial killer tv series  ) And a year old miniature schnauzer called Wee Ted who thinks he's a cocker spaniel with the nutty spaniel characteristics.

Love my dogs to bits.

We always had dogs as kids but haven't had one now since moving out of my parents home so decided it would be nice to get one into our family now.

We've got an ex rescue, our little mutt Nelson. Named after our national hero, as we got him near the 200 anniversary of his death. Ex rescure dog, he was about 3 yo at the time, now around 8.

Got a red boxer who is about to turn 9. Still absolutely solid and loves his walks. Fantastic with the kids and he's my best friend! He hasn't been on a lead since he was about 18 months, cracker of a dog.

I will be devestated and off work for a month when I finally lose him, heres hoping we've many more years ahead!

Sort of changing the subject but my nephew is in Afghanistan and we send him parcels every week. Seems the dog handlers are hoping for generosity for treats for the dogs over xmas. As Max is a failed sniffer dog who we rescued from the army he's happy to share and perhaps your pooches will be too. If so here's the information:

Please Help.....
Army dog handlers working in Afghanistan have a big drive on trying to get people to send dog treats out to them to give the dogs on Christmas Day.

One of the Soldiers is happy to have the parcels sent to him and he will distribute - it would be great if you could send a small parcel of treats (not dog food)

Keep parcels under 2 Kilos and they go FREE from any Post Office. The last posting date to arrive before Christmas is 30th November. Parcels to:

25178756 PTE Downer
Camp Bastion
OP Herrick 15
102 TMWDSU
BFPO 792 “

Let's not forget the working furkids on the frontline this Christmas :))
examples of what please Amanda ?

Have two lurchers one 12, poppy black and white greyhound/whippet/saluki cross and Tara 11, greyhound/whippet. Mad as a bag of frogs. Also the laziest dogs ever known and the softest, unless you happen to be cat sized and move quick, in that case you're fair game! Will post picture later.

Here goes

1 Weimaraner 10yrs old called Henry
1 Rotty bitch 5yrs old called Sassy
1 Rotty dog 3yrs old called Marley
1 Canaan bitch 18mth old called Ashia
1 Alaskan Husky 12mth old called Mishca

Not many people have heard of the Canaan dog breed. But it is one of only three true dog breeds(along with the wild African hunting dog and the dingo). There are only a handful of them in the country and all of them have 1 or both parents are wild dogs. They are native to the biblcal land of canaan (hence the name). first recorded in 3500 B.C. It is also thought not to have desended from wolves, but a distinct breed on it own.

do bitches generally make better gun dogs chris - just curious

I find them easier to train after training a few dogs which were chuffing murder as they were so headstrong I got Rhona who is/was quite timid and very easy to work with, show her a gun though and she is a completely different dog.

I've an 8yo Hungarian Vizsla called Aspen, was totally mental as a youngster but calmed down with age, good family dog. She'll be 9 on Tuesday. Seems no time since I picked her up as 9 week old pup!

I'm planning to send bonio style treats and also a heap of rawhide chews. If you pack in a jiffy bag and it's under 2kg it's free to post. You just need to complete a customs form at the PO. Not sure bout chocolate drops though as we can't send chocolate to Brandon as they melt. I'm guessing small toys/balls would be welcome as that's usually the reward for finding "stuff"...

I grew up on a farm so always had working dogs about. I used to hit golf balls for one and he would run and take them back to me. Since I've left home and live on my own I dont have a dog as it wouldn't be fair to leave them home all day while I'm at work. If my situation changes I'd love a Samoyed.
