Does your club have Wi-Fi and Sky?

Sky package for Club is approx £5000p.a. so yes it is expensive as the Club needs to generate that much extra in profit (not turnover) to cover it.

Golf clubs shouldn't be profit making. Sky in our area brings in significant extra income so its well worth the outlay. Never underestimate an old firm game in the west of Scotland, the golf club can turn over an extra 3k-5k any old firm game between food and bar sales.

No Sky and no wi-fi and no phones in the club house.

I would really like to see wi-fi available so as I can check sports scores etc (no Sky to have the sport on you see). Not going to happen though.

We did have sky until last year when members were asked to vote on to keep it or not as the cost was £4500
per year.

We have wi fi, not really publicised, we found out after our daughter turned her iPod on one night we were here for dinner and announced "dad, did you know you can get wi fi here ?? "

We have a tv that makes appearances for the open, but no Sky, believe we did have it until a couple of incidents during - you guessed it - an old firm game.

While i see the logic in not having sky in the clubhouse for over heads costs, i can only relate to the members at my place and how it effects the bar.

After a round, if there is something on, be it a premier ship game, f1, golf, generally people will stay and have 2/3 drinks while watching the tele, even if they stay until half time and then leave, they will often grab and sandwich to go with it, all bar takings. Many a time last year i finished, then stayed to watch F1 (not a footy fan) grabbed drinks & food, and in the end stayed on for a bit longer after too.

OK its £4500 but in relation it only comes off your running cost, the VAT will come back off the clubs vat bill, and the remainder will only come off bottom line profit before the account are filed, so i dont see it as an overhead,

We've got both, though I've never used the WiFi.

Sky sports for the footie and golf is a must for me.

Sky Sports = yes ,
WiFi = no ,
Snooker room = yes
Restaurant &/or bar food = yes .. good value & good food
Friendly obliging staff = A big YES .. we are very lucky ..
Phones in bar / restaurant = no , but in saying that with some of the yahoo members that we have thats a good thing, it just a matter of stepping out into the front hall/reception area . no big deal

would say exactly the same with my club minus the snooker room

Blimey with that sort of thinking I hope you are not an accountant! Anything that the Club has to pay for is an overhead or cost. £4500 - £5000 is exclusive of VAT

We have Sky (plus ESPN) and Wifi but with phones banned form the bar is there really any point unless you are going to be in a meeting of some description. We do get a few in for the footi on a Sunday afternoon and it always has the sport of some description on so I think it serves a purpose.

We have sky and I'm certain there is wifi also.

Agree with thecraw on the income an old firm game can generate a club in bar takings and food.
