Just wondered if your club tries to entice you in and keep you with wifi and sky sports for the golf and footy matches, especially over winter, their lean months?

We have Sky and ESPN all year round in the clubhouse. The dress code has been relaxed to entice members in and it seems to work well.

Wi-Fi is a big fat negative then again, mobile phones are a no no in the lounge.

Decent food at Callander as well. Lovely wee course although I get the impression that they are also struggling financially these days. Hope I'm wrong cracking day out is Callander.

Yes - we've had Sky ever since the club opened (1995 I think). There is WiFi available with password.

same as Mary

My current club has sky but no wifi.

Thinking of joining a new club and we played the main contender yesturday, sky yup, wifi yup, music yup ( albeit quiet in the background ) Sunday carvery Going when we got in and some pretty ladies behind the bar. Not one person seemed in a rush to leave yesturday which I really liked.

No Sky, it's far too expensive nowadays for the return you make at the bar ! No WiFi...... I go to the golf club to get away from my busy working life, so the last thing I'd want is to get the laptop out and hook up to the WiFi.

You do realise its not compulsory

The cost of sky was discussed last year,it's a huge cost for a clubhouse, and you must really wonder if the costs are recovered in increased sales.

Can understand clubs cutting back on the sky package, but is it really that expensive?

Regarding wifi surely there is no addition cost here as you could just use the clubs wifi unit, don't see why you would need a stand alone network for members and then one for staff

We have Sky but currently no wi-fi. Someone recently suggested that we make wi-fi available, especially for businesses renting out the function rooms. I don't have a problem with this, but if phones are not allowed in the clubhouse, is it right to make exception for iPad & notebooks etc ?

For those that are questioning the cost of Sky, we did the same two years back, decided that the cost far outweighed the benefit, so we scrapped it. The bar traffic dwindled significantly. We then found that the club was recouping almost the cost of Sky in unspent bar tabs, so Sky was voted in again last year. Bar traffic is back up again.

Big TV in one side of the clubhouse but I can't remember seeing it on anytime during the week.
Don't recall seeing a dish either...
Don't want to bother with Wi-Fi at the club...

So not really bothered!

Sky package for Club is approx £5000p.a. so yes it is expensive as the Club needs to generate that much extra in profit (not turnover) to cover it.
