Always tee it up. There aren't many times you get an advantage and putting the ball on the tee is one of them. I don't tee it it very high but I tee it up nonetheless

I only use a teepeg with the driver or the hybrid. Every other tee shot, be it 3wood or 56 deg wedge, from tee box or mat, is now played without a teepeg. I'm finding I'm getting a much better strike for some reason, and it's encouraging me to take a divot on the par threes.

Working better for me than it used to when I tee'd stuff up.

Off the grass for me. The reason for me is a mental one, as soon as I tee up using an iron 8 out of 10 shots I hit fat
I can hit woods of tees fine just not irons, something for my pro to help me sort out.

I always tee it up, might as well take advantage of being allowed a perfect lie. Never seen any of the pros not tee it up

I try and tee up as much as possible, not too much that I hit high on the face but always enough to clear the grass. For my 3 wood & hybrid it gets teed up a little more so I can hit it on the up swing more easily as hitting a little higher on the face is no harm and less risk of a top.

Works for me anyway.

Always, if it's a short hole it's teed well down but it's always on a tee

To get more control (backspin) you have to hit "down" on the ball. Surely having the ball slightly raised on a tee will help to do this. If I can tee it up I will. The only time I don't is during the winter if there are mats in play, and i will just throw the ball down and hit it from where it lands.

No, because I always shank anything teed up, including my driver.

I did have a look on HDID, and my stats on par 3's are reasonably impressive, especially compared to par 4's.

There is no hard and fast rule though, whatever suits you best. If you are not hitting many par threes with the ball teed up, try hitting off the deck.

Ok, so not wanting to hijack the thread but a genuine question to those that tee up. When practicing your iron shots at the range or practice ground (including 8,9 and wedges) do you practice tee shots? If not, why not if you use them out on the course?

My course has 3 par 3's so only 3 shots with an iron off the tee whereas most shots with an iron are on turf.

As bigslice pointed out, jack always said you only get 18 chances to get a perfect lie so tee it up when you can. The game is hard enough and we need all the help we can get.

I love all the "you never see a tour pro doing it"... Yeah, I havent seen many pros playing regular flex made for shafts either. If you wanna be like the tour pros boys better get those swapped out for top of the line x-stiff numbers. Thats how the tour pros do it after all....

So you are saying thats reason not to practice it? I only use my 6 iron 2 or 3 times a round, should I not practice that based on the fact that I use other clubs the rest of the time?

if i teed the ball up 1 inch i would end up putting the ball clean into the ground. i must come down on it quite steep! BUBBA DIVOTS !!

What, you dont get the connection? Its fairly simple but let me break it down. Talking about doing something because the pros do it.
Tour pros do it, must be right... Then so must the gear, otherwise why use it?

And thats the kind of free thinking logic that cant be argued with. I will mend my ways henceforth and play a peg whenever I can. Because "Big Jack" told me to.
Now I can finally feel like a tour pro.

Whatever the distance/club, I always tee up for a par 3.
