Do you occasionally miss a putt from within 3 feet?

Putting was a big weakness with me. I never practiced up until about a year ago. On the practice green the bulk of my practice is 3ft putts.

I do about 3 or 4 sets of 20 3ft putts from around the hole. I aim for 20 out of 20 in at least one set. All year the best I have done is 19 on a couple of occasions. I definitely miss a lot less on the course now than I did a year ago.

I couldn’t give an average per round because like everyone else, one day I'm hot and miss none and next miss a bag full

Never. But I'm a sub 30 putter now.

Thats an interesting stat, generally I also have sub 30 putts per round HOWEVER I miss far too many GIR's so am frequently chipping and 1 putting for par.

Must improve GIR stats from current 35% level, that will probably increase my PPR figures tho.

I entirely agree with you. I don't keep a record of my GIR but I would imagine to be around your 35%. When I hit a GIR most of the time it's a 2-putt or a 10+ footer.

normally I'm a pretty good putter from that distance, but I fooked up from about 8 inches in our last round of Winter League !!! nasty business ... sometimes it's easy to become complacent dont ya think ?

It is a telling stat as my 2 best rounds this year were very different. 21 putts in one round but GIR rubbish and 36 putts on the next and most greens in regulation. My mid to long irons accuracy has improved lately and therefore % GIR also but the number of 3 putts is a bit of any ugly stat for me right now.

The best putter at our club by far is a joy to watch. She wields her Dad's old putter with a grip so shiny it beggars belief and the local crazy golf facility would turn their nose up at it - but - simply stands and lines it up and gives it a firm hit - holes out beautifully.

I keep a simple s/sheet which reords Fairways Hit, GIR, PPR, Pars, Birdies & score (+ any wonga given or received).

Not the most scientific but a real eye opener especially fairways hit & GIR (ugly stats for me)

excellent, I'm average 36 which is hard to hold my handicap with this.

whats your secret and what putter do you use?

I use a ping anser x, face balanced. So nothing extravagant but I went for a custom fitting with the SAM PuttLab and I would surely recommend it. Particularly if you get a follow up check few weeks later.

I also used the famous v-easy for a couple of months and it definitely helped. Now I'm just lazy about it and I don't use it much.

I practice once a week for about 1hr after work as we have a lit putting area. Going there after work I'm generally the only one so I can try several drills without worrying about others. The one I found the most effective is distributing 5-6 balls around the same hole at different distances. This way each putt has a different length and break. I aim to make all 5-6 and if I miss one I start from the beginning. I start with a 3ft and the last one is generally a 15ft.

Putting stats are about as confusing as fork handles were to Ronnie Corbett

One of the golf stat tracker sites I've seen (I won't say the name, don't want to advertise) uses distance from pin on first putt as an input, which I think then does start to make putting stats make more sense. That, or Putts per GIR would be the best ways to keep track of putting.

Of course but it is a stronger suit of my game and something I work diligently on in the summer. Not a lot of point on our putting green in the winter that looks like a corrugate roof but putts worse than it looks or when we're on temps anyway. I love setting myself targets for consecutive putts or using one of those hole shrinkers and try and make as many as I can with that

sorry to go off subject but what is a v-easy is it a training aid and what does it do thanks and sorry again.

It is a multi purpose device for headcover holding, putter cover holding, Channel 5 reception, water divining.....

......oh and helping with putting apparently

Hi,
It is indeed a training aid which helps you and your game in 3 different ways.
Aiming, chipping and putting.

There's a few in the forum who already own one so you may get some impartial feedback from them in due course.
In the meantime, if you want to know more, you can go to the V-Easy website where there is all the information you may need.

Hope you find it interesting.

P.s.
Oops, forgot to mention, they make great Christmas presents
