Ah say we don't want none of that slack northern attitude in a couple of weeks Bill. Am gonna be checking out your balls:rofl:

obviously none of this poll is anything to do with the current blog on the rules of golf.
I have voted and do declare my ball unless it is a Dunlop, and I don't want anyone to know I am playing with them. Well not during the day.

Bill uses Vice balls with no vice marks :smirk:

My balls are unique. I've even had a couple handed back by folks who have found them in the rough.

In qualifying comps yes... and how I've marked it... bounce games no as our kid knocks it around in level par and I don't get a look in, so don't see the point... 😂😂😂

I need a "sometimes" option in the vote.

I use yellow balls which makes me a rarity in the groups I play in, so just saying "it's a yellow one" usually differentiates me from the people I play with. I usually have 2 balls in my pocket on the tee but I always make sure they're different numbers. If have to play a provisional I announce the number of it before I play and make a point of saying that the first one will be different.

If anyone is playing another yellow I describe my scribblings on the ball too.

Sort of , before going to look for a ball ill say "Bridgestone E6 with an apple logo drawn on" and then everyone knows wht their looking for

Hmm, I don't think there's a requirement to do so within the rules, is there?

Obviously you need to declare and state what a provisional ball is when the need arises and then no doubt what the first ball was, as they shouldn't be the same, but otherwise, why do you need to?

Correct, but sometimes its worth throwing a forthright view in to see what comes out in the wash.:D

However, and as tony said, there are too many times/people who when you are looking for their ball just say that they are playing a Titleist or a Srixon, and dont even know what number is on it. Ive sometimes even said "theres a Srixon 2 here"......they normally say yes thats it, funny to see their face when its actually a Srixon 4.

To me the rule SHOULD be that you have to mark your ball, as it CAN give cheats free licence, although as you said its not within the rules that you have to.

Crazy that a game with so many rules would over look this.

Its not hard, mark it, declare it and then there is no confusion when the ball goes into the rough. Everyone knows what they are looking for.

Ive been in the same bush two days running and found the previous days ball and not the one I was looking for. Wiggle room for cheats if not declared.

Same happened to me at an open at Royal st davids.

We finished 4th instead of 2nd, as owned up to it, after playing it and being the previous day's ball (it had a different logo on it, but was still a taylor made 2 with a doggie on it.

I believe that 95% of golfers would be honest about it,but a few percent wouldnt.

Who is saying they don't Mark thier ball?

all i keep hearing is that not declaring what ball with markings is a cheats charter. I have seen a few cheats over the years so please explain how knowing what ball they have will stop them from dodgy marking on the green, improviing their lie, not replacing a ball after moving it, writing down 5 when the really got 7, scooping a ball out of the bunker, kicking the ball out to a better position.. the list goes on....

I had this problem so started putting the date on the ball as well as my normal mark, only trouble was I had to throw all my balls away at the end of the day as I couldn't use them for future rounds, so I stopped doing it.

Can you point where I said any of " how knowing what ball they have will stop them from dodgy marking on the green, improviing their lie, not replacing a ball after moving it, writing down 5 when the really got 7, scooping a ball out of the bunker, kicking the ball out to a better position.. the list goes on..." will stop any of the above?

Your making things up, Pad.

It may give them one less option to cheat with though.

oh yes give cheats free licence must mean something else.

 this will burn a hole in your pocket right enough.

No. But I tell people what I am looking for when not on the fairway/green, and if I hit a provisional I declare and how it is marked different from the original.

What I don't get is if people say they play a Srixon 2, but after how many lost balls do you still have some of them, or you are going to a Srixon 3.
So I play Srixon of any number, but they are marked I, II & III with a pen.
