Before teeing off on the first do you announce to your playing partners what make and model of ball your are usiing?

Yes if you do

No if you dont

I normally do declare when playing a comp. in a friendly social round I don't bother. My balls are marked with green clover leaves, so they are usually pretty recognizable. I do choose something distinctly different and do declare the make and model when playing a provisional, though. I try to use a coloured ball for that, or a make and model I normally don't use for my regular ball.

Yes.

Only cheats don't, and don't mark their ball, either.

Hmm, I don't think there's a requirement to do so within the rules, is there?

Obviously you need to declare and state what a provisional ball is when the need arises and then no doubt what the first ball was, as they shouldn't be the same, but otherwise, why do you need to?

I've voted no because I don't always or as a matter of course, I tend to only announce it when someone else does and feel prompted to do the same, otherwise I just crack on...

Sounds fair enough to me

Never bother. I know what ball I'm using and know how to identify it. If anyone decided to disagree that I'm playing the correct ball, despite me being 100% sure, then I would smile and walk off the course.

Provisionals are a different matter- At that point, I'd say, "my first is a Srixon 4, my provisional is a Srixon 2". The reason I'd do this is to a) announce my intention to play a provisional ball and b) ensure THAT I can identify one from t'other if I hit my shot in the same direction as my first.

Guess that makes me a cheat (despite breaking no rules).

I think the only requirement under the rules is that you should be able to identify your ball.

I usually announce what I'm playing, so voted yes.

In comps yep

Also asked to identify what ball I'm using when playing in Pro Ams or county comps by the Marshall

I don't - there is no rule that says you need to. I will only announce make and model if hitting a provisional.

I've seen people who haven't announced what ball they are playing tee off with one ball and putt out with another after a search in the rough.
