Always for a couple of reasons.

1. It guarantees I'm playing my ball

2. It would stop anyone calling or thinking I'm a cheat.

I played with a player once who didn't declare and we ended up looking for his ball and I asked him what he was playing whilst looking for which he answered "Titleist"[popular ball].
I also asked what number and had he marked it "no" being his answer, luckily we found a Titleist but I couldn't help thinking it was not his, marking would take away the doubt.

declaring and marking are 2 separate things

Don't think it has really crossed my mind and wouldn't remember if a player had or not said what they are playing with x ball. I trust them.

Anyway I prefer to keep my options open when looking in the rough or trees. .:ears:

Did having a playing partner at Foresters finding two of his marked balls(preprinted logo) and same numbers iirc on the same fairway, someone coming up the adjacent hole had hit his ball onto ours and had found a ball and hit it and it just so happened to be one of his lost balls.....I don't think he could tell which one he had hit or not off the tee, as they were the same. Goodness know what you are meant to do in that situation.

unfortunetly unless you can positively ID your ball, its lost... then its back to where you came from... for both off them

I am abstaining due to this being an extremely boring subject.

Ah say we don't want none of that slack northern attitude in a couple of weeks Bill. Am gonna be checking out your balls:rofl:

obviously none of this poll is anything to do with the current blog on the rules of golf.
I have voted and do declare my ball unless it is a Dunlop, and I don't want anyone to know I am playing with them. Well not during the day.

Bill uses Vice balls with no vice marks :smirk:

Fish, if they are all marked the same how can you differentiate if you hit two in the same patch? Do you add an extra mark to your provisional or just hope you don't hit two in the same place? I tend to use the same mark but I have a variety of balls in my bag so if I lose a callaway I'll pull out a TM for my next ball.

I use the same marks but use a different number for a provisional

This ^

My sleeves are not all the same after I've marked them, I'll play with a new No1 and have a No2 & No3 in my ball holder, so I'll always a different number ball as a provisional.

I do also have some loose Pro V pick-ups in my bag that I find on the course and will use those at times also.

Yes. Will declare the make, the number and what ID marking it has. No need to but something I have done from a very early age and it's a habit for me now and I've been known to stand over a ball having not done so and it play on my mind. Nothing like having a clear and focused mind!
