Different Golf tournament formats please

In the battle for the ever -decreasing 'charity' dollar I'm interested in any 'tried and tested' golf tournament formats (and any that haven't worked) that are a bit more unusual. Based around teams of 4 (teams will mixed in any combination or 4 men or 4 women About 80% will be member of the host club and 20% visiting players. I'd thought of a 5 club competition but wondered if 'visiting' members would be put off by not getting to play 'proper' golf with a full set ...would that be the case if it was you?? . All will be golfers with a handicap. Trying to find a format that still requires a reasonable level of skill so that the end placings aren't totally random but also has a degree of low pressure to attract less confident members eg like a best 3 out of 4 stable ford scores count - but that has been done to death! Also any other extras ... putting completion etc .... All ideas greatly appreciated

I played on a corporate day and the nine hole scramble was a crazy club challenge.

Each team is given an envelope with the clubs written on bits of paper. On each tee you pick out a bit of paper and whatever club is on it has to be used for that hole until you’re on the green.

It’s great fun using a wedge on a par 5 or driver on a short par 3

Yellow ball.

Each team is given a yellow ball and then the team take it in turns to use that ball for a hole. Points with the yellow ball count double. Lose the yellow ball and it cannot be replaced.

Any sort of greensomes or foursomes never gets a lot of support where I play.

Alternate shot formats seem to struggle to attract players these days. Best-balls and scrambles seem to be the most popular formats and there are plenty of variations to be had with both. Examples include:

• Waltz (1-2-3); the best 1 score counts on the first, best 2 on the second, best 3 on the third, best 1 on the fourth, etc.
• Irish fourball; best 1 score counts on the first 6 holes, best 2 on the middle 6, and best 3 on the last 6 (lots of variations of this to be had too, e.g. count best 2, then 3, then all 4)
• Arizona shuffle; a set number of scores are counted based on the par of the hole, e.g. all 4 on par 3s, 3 on par 4s, 2 on par 5s.
• High-low; the best and worst score on each hole count (a variation is to count the best 2 and the worst on each hole)
• Shamble; as per scramble from the tee - everyone tees off and the best shot is selected - and the hole is then completed as best-ball (with 2 from 4, 3 from 4, etc. to count)

As for extras, an interesting one is having a target in the fairway, e.g. a barrel, as an alternative the longest or straightest drive - best done on a shortish par 4 such that most players will be able to reach the target but it's not so far away from the green that most players will ignore it. If you have a big enough putting green, longest putt holed is an option.

As it’s for charity, allow teams to purchase additional yellow balls.

Play in teams of 4. Each hole is a 3 person scramble and one person playing the yellow ball with the scores combined. Everyone has to play at least 4 holes with the yellow ball.
This adds an element of strategy.

Also sell mulligans.

Do 3 clubs and a putter, but players can purchase additional clubs if they want to take more.

yellow ball a horror format for a fun day. one lost ball earlier and 4 people arent having much fun. ok for a seniors comp where no one ever loses a ball

For me the best team format is Am-Am but with varying numbers of scores counting on every hole
