Decisions, decisions - mobile upgrade time :)

I actually looked at the sony in the 3 store, the camera is awesome and probably the best on all smartphones

bloody hell, thats another one in the mix (I had forgotten about that 1)

Whatever you do, don't go on 3, i've still got another 9 months of my contract with 3 and as soon as its up im going straight over to O2, or just anyone with decent signal for that matter, as the 3 signal is appalling... they have some great deals which is what drew me in but be warned... personally I would either go for the 4s or wait for a bit and get the galaxy 3, tbh you can probably avoid using itunes for most of the time with an iphone especially now they've got icloud, i had a go on my mates galaxy 2 and its awesome, so i can only dream at what the 3 will be like, i have a htc desire and i wouldn't say its bad but its not great, i used to be a big fan of htc's but ive been a bit put off now, i wouldn't get another one for a while...

I have the S2 and it's a great phone, but after playing with the HTC One X it feels a little slow :D

If your new to smart phones then it's a great one to start with.

Have you updated your OS to the new 'Ice Cream Sandwich'' yet? Mine was laggy with ''Gingerbread'' until I upgraded. Seem's like a new phone now.

Another vote for the upcoming Samsung GS3. It's gonna be the class leader just like the S2 was.

The Samsung is only class leader in the class of Android phones.

In the class named 'smartphones' the iPhone 4S is still the daddy. iPhone 5 will probably be announced soon, so if you can hang on, I would do so.

Is there anything definitive that there will be an Iphone 5 this year. Been a few supposed Apple announcements that have not been as thought. It was rumoured that the 5 would be out last year and it became the 4S then there was meant to be the new, super slim Macbook announced in March that has gone quiet. If there is going to be an Iphone 5 this year then it may well be worth the wait as needs to be special to beat the new crop of Andriod phones but, as with alot of Apple releases, the constant rumours do not necessarily mean a new product is coming soon.

Apple have stuck more or less to their release cycle with previous iPhones. There has been an annual update, mostly announced in June, but once or twice later. There is always a lot of rumour mongering, as there is this year, but it seems to be enough to justify confidence in a later summer/early autumn new iPhone 5. iOS 6 is certainly coming, and the new Mac OS 10.8 is due out. Both are driving towards greater integration of OSs and it would be rather uprising if iPhone, in some ways the central piece of hardware for the whole set up, was left behind.

For me Gibbo there is only one phone worth getting. The Galaxy S3. the note is massive and I just refuse to follow the masses and get an I-phone. Even more so when you read the spec on the Galaxy S3 compared to the I-phone. Apparently it is better than the I-phone 5 that they are developing.

The S3 will be released at the end of the month.

Watching this thread with interest. My contract expired on the 4th and haven't got a scooby what to go for.

Does anyone have the Galaxy S2? If so, what's it like? I am thinking of upgrading my Nokia 3510i (lol etc...) as I need to get with the times. I am on O2 and have found a deal for £20 a month with enough texts, calls, data etc...still with O2 but can I take my number with me easily enough? Does my SIM from the Nokia go into the S2?CheersAl

Absolute cracker. Whips the iPhone on every benchmark. Get it.

Apart from better aesthetics, more apps and greater sales does not make a phone the king........

The 5 will be announced, and it probably will not be that much different from the 4S and Apple will charge the consumer mega ££££££. Oh, they will sell out though.......:)

I've already decided on the Galaxy Note. Just looks the business.
It is matey, I always look forward to upgrade time in work as I control the mobile contract, I dont know what to change to next time round, nothing else has caught my eye and with ICS4 coming for this device imminently, itll be even better and free!.

Good stuff. I waited for the S3 launch and was a little underwhelmed by it's looks (a bit plastic looking). So the Note it is.

my lads One X just arrived.... its a big bugger, will have a play with it later and see if android suits me after 4 years of iphones

The note is a definite possibility as I am not bothered by small as I do a lot of web browsing on my iphone while at work so the extra size would enhance that for me.

The Note is plastic based also. if it was metal it could be too heavy for some. I use a rubber cover as the naked finish isnt quite abrasive enough for me and could potentially drop it. It comes with gorilla glass but due to the size of the screen would recommend a cover. It is a bright clear screen, you dont want to screw it up leaving it to scrape with your keys in the golf bag etc.

IME it's cheaper to get a cheap sim only deal and pay for the phone from somewhere else. When I got my HTC Desire O2 were wanting £35 a month for 24 months for it. In the end I bought it for £299 from Carphone Warehouse and got a sim only deal with 3 for a tenner a month (3000 texts, 100 any network minutes, 2gb data PCM) which saved me £370 over the term of the proposed O2 contract.

And I flogged my bricked Nokia 5800 to envirophone for £90 :D

I know vodafone were recently doing 300 mins, 3000 texts and 250mb per month for £20.50 with the note on Phones4U. if you dont have access to wireless, you will smash through the limit though as phones these days should have unlimited data as a basic given.

Gotcha, but I meant that the S3 looks a bit plastic (cheap looks IMO). The Note just has that more glossy look to it. I realise they are plastic (material costs being a greater concern than weight).
I really like the idea of the larger screen for video playback and a decent camera as, having a wee boy of only 2 1/2, the camera gets used a lot.

I have the Nokia Lumia 710, with Windows Mobile 7.5. Quite a slick phone and you could get the 800 as an upgrade, similar to mine with more memory and 8mp camera. Lumia 900 is just out as well.
