• We'd like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Holidays and a very Merry Christmas from all at Golf Monthly. Thank you for sharing your 2025 with us!

Damn you TaylorMade and your #loftup campaign!

Just to add (without my TaylorMade head on), that I'm pretty sure Phil has got his swing speed number wrong on here as, after playing with him at Woodhall, there's no way he's 'only' swinging around 100 mph. Just from being at a lot of fittings recently, and judging from my own swing, he's a lot closer to 110, than 100.

Yeah someone where I've misremembered something, I wish i'd have taken a photo now... definite on the distance though :)

Meh, dont worry about the numbers, you clearly give it a rip and it sounds very much like you made some big gains... that all that matters.

That would certainly explain things.

For 285 yard carry, one would need a ball speed somehere in the low 160s with ideal launch conditions and perfect smash factor... so I'd say Phil's swing would have to be 108-110mph.

My INDEPENDENT fitting of this club gave me a 262 carry with a 110 swing speed. 285 carry off a 100mpg ss just ent gonna happen

I must a really short hitter compared to some of the distances on here

The black tie was a bit too firm for me - the Fujikara was the one that gave me the best numbers

I don't know why they didn't have the Black Tie as the stock shaft - it seems almost everyone who has been fitted has this shaft...!
Its a £220 shaft on its own or a £60 upcharge. costly for tm i think to give it as stock

To be fair, I played with Phil around Woburn. He has a fantastic golf swing, way better than his h/c would suggest. I'm guessing he has mis-recalled his swing speed, as he is no way in my league of 100 ish. His issues lie elsewhere!

That said, I can't hit an SLDR for toffee. Loft up? No. Just don't go there!

As you can see, I have the 6M3 in regular. Fits my 92mph Max swingspeed perfectly & performs infinitely better than the stock shaft. If you look at the Cleveland International Flex Code for the 6M3 / 7M3 you'll see a rating of 3389 (6M3). This means the the tip & lower section is stiffer than most stiff shafts while the butt & mid section are regular. This is unique among the shafts I've looked at and gives this shaft its playability and low spinning, penetrating flight. There's not another one like it on the market.

OK, but then his numbers with the previous driver are improbably poor, at 240 carry, not explained by massive spin. Whatever his swing speed he is claiming a 45 yard improvement in carry. Someone is trying to fool someone here.

There is a well known problem with some golf stores amping up launch monitors to flatter customers. I have had it done to me and the guy admitted when I called him on it, and a former AG store manager told me it was common practice. Then someone walks out with the idea they can now hit the ball 30 yards further and it never happens on the golf course.

I have open use to a track man and it is unbelievably easy to add a 30mph tail wind to a shot without one noticing. if you were a sceptical some would say it was designed that way

I am officially one of the shortest on here. Around 235-240 max (including roll). Can't get excited about SLDR as I have hated all TM drivers recently. The R1 in particular had a horrid dead feel off the face. I'd rather see the G30 and the turbulators

Have you tried it ?

No and have no intention. Happy with my G25. Haven't been impressed with TM drivers for a while (yes I have tried them) and all their marketing claims, each driver promising even more yards. Mind you they aren't alone. I get plenty of forgiveness and happy to stick with G25 all the same
