Damn you TaylorMade and your #loftup campaign!

No, wanted a Titleist driver... tried one in DG saw it wasn't a standard titliest shaft, tried it and hit it better than my previous driver which was a Nike Dymo (If I can remember) - it went straight and was adjustable so I bought it.

If I can convince Mrs169 to let me have a newen I will most likely go to a proper fitting centre for all the options.. Though going round my track, SLDR might be too long... so I might need to fairway and hybrid.... uh oh...

How can she deny you!! Give her some love or... Just don't tell her!

Reading through all this and one thing is for sure - I'm rather confident that once Philly has had it out on his home course in still conditions a few times, he'll be happy enough to come back and let us know exactly how he got on.

Interesting thread - this with the usual spitefulness here and there along the way

Great advert for TM, although the SLDR sounds great I for one will not be buying one at the moment, will consider a second hand one comes up in the next couple of years after another new innovation comes along and everybody changes again

This of course will change if money is no object and I can play more

Personally I will stick with my second hand R9 and try to work on accuracy as its the best for me in my limited experience after trying a number of second hand drivers

Phil good luck with it hope all goes well

Don't feel guilty about not telling her. My wife says she will almost certainly bought new clothes & told you she's had them for ages. I've got 3 drivers my wife doesn't know about.

If I told my wife about every single golf purchase I made I wouldn't be allowed access to my bank account any time in the near future....

The forward CG placement in the SLDR is further forward than the two weights in the R1 put the CG in that club. By some degree.

The 'LoftUp' campaign isn't a gimmick, as has been proved a number of times through independent testing with launch monitors by numerous PGA Pro's, many of them started the tests as they doubted the claims, but now know a good ways different.
Anyone with an engineering background should be familiar with the physics involved.

Unless the 'Trackman' (or LM of other make) has been set up wrongly, distance of unit behind strike, distance of strike to net capture (if inside). or it was wrongly calibrated (this would be highly unusual) or the yearly software license wasn't up to date & unless the driver or ball used in the testing did not conform to the USGA & R&A's ruling of coefficient of restitution of clubs, (drivers) & balls being limited to a COR of 0.83 then the smash factor cannot exceed the highest possible 'realistic' figure of 1.4944.

(theoretically mathematically possible to have a smash factor of 1.50, if the driver used had a loft 0º, with a zero shaft flex, plus producing 0 rpm of spin, & that's why it's only theoretical!)

Smash Factor is Ball Speed divided by Club Head Speed.

The nearer to a centered strike the higher the efficiency of the transference of energy is from Club Head Speed to Ball Speed at collision, so then the higher the SF number. {That's the reason why a centered strike at any speed is the most important factor in achieving the optimum distance available for that Club Head Speed.}

Looking at Bubba's tour averages this season Driver swing speed of 123.50mph - Rank 1. Ball speed 182.98mph -Rank 1. Smash Factor 1.482 -Rank 82. Launch angle 9.79º -Rank 154. Spin Rate 2,638.0 rpm -Rank 86.

Tour Average Highest Smash Factor 1.485. 19 players share the No 1 SF position.
1.484. is 20th position shared by 58 players.

With a premium ball & with driver an amateur should look for at least a SF of 1.42 preferably above. If you want to be an elite cat 1. player you should look for a SF of at least 1.47.
A Tour pro would look to have a SF of at least 1.48.

I don't want to pee on your bonfire but did the guy fiddle with the launch monitor while your back was turned? I'm no expert but I don't believe 285 carry is possible from 102 mph swing speed.

I'm sure the numbers guys will be along soon to verify what distance you can actually get from that swing speed.

my swing speed is 105 and i have this very driver and i do not carry it 285 more like 260
