Interesting this, clearly this is difficult subject to discuss in text as everyone is constantly miss reading / apologizing in case offence is caused on comments made.

I think the real sad thing here is in the year 2016 mothers, fathers, sons and daughters are still being killed because of a prejudice linked to the color of their skin.

Maybe we haven't moved on in this world as far as we may all hope we have

has there been protests and massive media coverage when a white person has been shot by the police??
Granted this guy being shot in his car seems OTT but the footage shown on his wife's mobile phone is again only showing the culmination of events and not the full story. The other guy shot was allegedly carrying a gun and had an extensive criminal record. Surely the cops could have subdued him though, there were 2 of them on top,of him when he was shot at point blank range.
Do black people not make up something like 35% of the prison population in America?.
Agree with the OP though, there have been more white people shot by police than black in the last year.

I think this and the reaction by some in the EU vote has shown that racism is alive and as disgusting as always - there will always be lots of under current racism about - just look at UKIP - the leader was clearly racist but kept himself just about over the line. Then as soon as a reason is given certain people believe they are justified when they display racial prejudice

But only 13% of the population in the USA is black so it would appear that the number of black victims of police shootings is more than a little disproportionate.

Which ties in with a question I was asked in a recent interview " why are so many blacks in prison compared to whites, when you take into consideration blacks v whites in the general population". I did not know the answer. I do now though. The problem is not just a USA problem re blacks/ prison/society. It is also a UK problem, although thankfully without the shootings. A large part of the answer is education, Blacks tend to leave school with a lower level of education. Which in turn leads to either low paid work or into gangs earning easy money. Not my opinion any of that. It was a Government led enquiry into why so many Blacks are in Prison, an enquiry whose outcome was presented by Diane Abbot.
However, there is always a glimmer of hope and not all blacks should be classed as gang land thugs or innocent victims. The last cadet of the year at Sandhurst military academy for the first time ever was a black person. he left school with a low education standard and his father said you have two choices, gangs or educate yourself. With the support of his family he choose the later and excelled.

I really like Simbo,s comment re footage only showing culmination of events , this is soo true , In most cases there are 3 sides to every story , yours mine & the truth .. don't know much bout whats going on in USA but can I share some of my own experiences

Anyhow let me back to my point on racism ,

Ive worked pub doors & clubs for years I can honsestly say ive never stopped someone because of their race , ive stopped them because of their appearance , their demeanour etc but never their race , I can guarantee ive stopped more white irish people than any other BUT the min a non national gets stopped it becomes a racist thing ..

Re my first point of seeing & judging on the culmination of events ,

We had taken a guy out one night it got a bit dirty on the footpath & a passer by called the guards (who already had been called by the manager) & stayed to make a complaint about us (me)
Anyhow the 2 ambulances arrived at same time to attend to the guy who had been headbutted & girl who had been glassed on the back , they also looked & & steri stripped the cut on my arm ..

Anyhow as they continued with their complaint they were invited by Gardaí to view video evidence of what had happened inside , they were shocked at what the saw , apologised & withdrew their complaint ..

The point im making here is we are seeing the aftermath , we don't know what is said or done to lead to this , I am tho fairly sure not too many police officers go to work to shoot someone dead & not too many people even the not so decent ones go out with intention of being shot dead ,,

Sad endings & a lot of lives ruined

It isn't just edumakation though Tashy. In a previous job I've interviewed with a guy who, afterwards, said no about a top candidate based on country of origin, and I've interviewed with another guy who said wrong caste. The second guy with HR sat there... I don't agree with positive discrimination either but recognise the need for it.

The percentage of Black/Latino's compared to Whites in Texan prisons makes interesting reading.

Likewise, worked the doors in Glasgow and seen this lots of times, people hear smashing glass, turn round and there's a bit of a rampage going on, out come the mobile phones then generally see a bouncer hitting or ejecting someone from a club, and the bouncer hit that lad "for no reason" they haven't seen the so called innocent wee lad that was hit by the big bad bouncer shove a glass in someone's face 2 minutes earlier. And the guy is judged on the culmination of events.
Does anybody really think this police officer has pulled the guy over for a broken tail light then walked up and shot him 4 times??
Black people may be getting shot more than white but to say targeting them is a bit OTT IMO. The fact that most crime is committed by black people probably means the police are way more wary of them and are more likely to be a bit quicker on the trigger than with white people.

There has been plenty bouncers over the years go way overboard when removing someone from a club - in the 90's we were waiting in a queue and a bunch of bouncers were dragging a guy out - they managed to knock someone over - one bouncer turned round saw him on the ground and decided to stamp on his head - one fractured skull and 3 month hospital stay later - Bouncer sent down - there were lots of incidents around then with a lot of them being sent down for violence offences for going beyond just being a bouncer.

I think it's possible because it's happened a number of times before

Just in the interest of balance I wonder what the racial split of people who shoot at the police is, if it's 10x more likely that a black person is going to injure the police officer you could understand them being edgier in that event.

What ever has happened there appears to be some very broken areas of America where there is no trust on either side and everyone having guns just doesn't help.

I see there has been another incident today, 3 more police officers killed in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
