Lived there for 6 years - weather will be nice with the odd heavy thunder storm shower to clear the air

Which part of Cyprus are you thinking of going ?

Maybe came across the old fella then (dead now) - Ben Lennon...often propping up the Bar in the Comet club:cheers:

The Comet Club !! Blimey that's a blast from the past - we used to work the bar - when I was out there in 99-2003 the 33Su was all closed up

Sorry to hear about your old fella - was he TG3 - what years was he there ? The name does ring a slight bell.

He came out in 96, WO at Ay Nik. First out there late 60s, then did Locking, Brize, TCW, SHAPE etc.picked his last posting back out in Cyprus. They built a house in Zanadja, half the way up the mountain to Troodos from Epi. Mum still lives there (Comet Club bar sign in the back garden;))

Then I think I remember him and I'm sure he was part of the committee that ran the Comet Club - possibly the Chairman !

Will ask my dad also as he was at locking in the 60's ( they live in the village now )

lovely part of the island up the mountain

Tubby (though not as tubby as his son) grey hair (from his 30s onwards) glasses, Rothman in one hand and Mid Lothian accent.

yeah, lovely part of the world, but tough to live in now after the bank collapse..

small world!

Been a few times too, Got married on Nissi Beach last time we were over. Id love to live there but would need a fantastic wage to make it work (many people have 2 jobs).
We've never really went anywhere else apart from Ayia Napa, found it to be great for clubbing and as a family destination too strangely. Golf is becoming more and more popular there now too if it matters.

Yeah I heard it got hit hard by the Euro

Remember playing Aphrodite when it first opened for £10 !!

Last year it very nearly fell out of the Euro. Two major banks went bust. Even now, there is a limit of what you can take out of a bank per day. At one point, the MOD flew Euros out from Brize. Current situation is that if my Mum wanted to sell the house, she could not export the cash from the sale.

There are loads of courses springing up now as well as Aphrodite (all quite a lot more than a tenner though!)

Yeah I know I few people who had loans with Alpha for their new car to bring back - the loan payments were returned and they stopped having to pay the loan for some reason ! It was great out there - country was thriving until they joined the Euro.

When I was there initially the choices of golf courses were the three military ones at Epi , Ay Nik and TPMH on the browns and mats. There was Tzada and Secret Valley which were nice courses and there was Vikla in the mountains - cracking little course covered in snakes :D

We stumbled upon Aphrodite when on the way to secret Valley. I managed to get a cheap deal for the RAF lads at Epi when it first opened - was going to buy a villa there until they doubled the price !

Secret Valley now upgraded - Elea is close by, a Faldo course; probably a better test of golf than Aphrodite if less spectacular - and operates as a proper members club too - Minthis Hills is allegedly really good. Certainly makes visiting the old dear a bit more fun when I have a choice of courses to go play!

Blimey it has certainly upgraded as a golfing island now - might have a look at a little trip

Well worth the trip for the golf - but the days of it being a cheap option are gone unfortunately; the Keo and Carlsberg are still good - you can still find decent Greek grub in amongst the egg and chips and Russian menus...

If I want value I go to the northern Cyprus which is outside the eurozone. Not as developed but I know a decent hotel in the mountains that is good for relaxing without spending a fortune

Keo !! Blurgh !!

It's in a yellow can for a reason :D love the brandy and wine though

Used to enjoy trips to little villages in the mountains to have a nice meze

I used to live on the strip in Limassol - my mate took pictures of the area now - all the bars gone now.
