Cyprus

If I want value I go to the northern Cyprus which is outside the eurozone. Not as developed but I know a decent hotel in the mountains that is good for relaxing without spending a fortune

North Cyprus is lovely - Kyrennia

I stay on the hills above Kyrenia then get a cab in to the harbour when needed. Lovely place and still great value for money

Yeah there is some lovely places in the hills - used to really enjoy visiting places like Lefkara to see the cotton/silk places.

Polis is also nice

Next time I go I really need to get out a bit more. The place I stay is just really peaceful and relaxing and I tend to go there when I need to re-charge the batteries for a week or so rather than go out and do things. All I tend to do is head out for food and a few beers in the evening. Have not been for a couple of years so maybe the next trip is one where I hire a car for a few days and explore.

Definitely go out and explore the island - some wonderful places around

Will do, am surprised that Northern Cyprus is not more popular to be honest, good hotels, cheap to eat and drink as not in the Eurozone and even has a golf course now. Think that you may even be able to fly direct these days rather than taking the detour via Istanbul for the flight to be re-classified as an internal one.

I always preferred Northern cyprus - a lot more tranquil and unspoilt

Lived there for 6 years - weather will be nice with the odd heavy thunder storm shower to clear the air

Which part of Cyprus are you thinking of going ?

Thinking of going to Paphos, got a good deal, but unsure on weather,

Only ever been to Protaros in the past,

Thanks

Elea Golf was pretty nice when I played last summer. Up on a hill with a nice clubhouse and great practice ground, nice friendly guys who look after you when you arrive and a good test of golf.

I believe there were some horrors on both sides. It does seem though that the younger generation are more prepared to move on - time heals a little I guess...

The most eye opening stories I got told on the green line tour through Nicosia

Lots of stories from the NATO lads there - plus the cars stuck in there

There is an old man who walks around Ay Nik village who before the war was the richest man on the island - his belongings and house where on the Turkish side after the war so was left with nothing

It's a few years since I was in Cyprus. Nice place but quite expensive when your there.

In Paphos itself we found it to be expensive, and funnily enough one of the most expensive places we visited (The Manhatten) was probably our least favourite!

One of the nicest meals we had was at a restaurant at a place called Latchi, lovely fresh fish and then a couple of days later had probably the best Lamb Kleftiko I have ever had at a different restaurant, same village.

Prefer Turkey & find it better value tbh.

Latchi is a lovely place - there are some wonderful places to eat - some great fish restaurants
