245 forum yard carry:thup:
I know the hole you mean though - off a little perched rock across the abyss - not sure its 3 - 7 maybe?

The carry only comes into play when it's a par 5 and I'm sure it's about 180-200 yard carry.

The par 3 is the 7th across the ravine

yep - 7th is the par 3 one - first time I had ever played a course with a forced carry (was quite new to golf) nearly wet myself. Smacked it as hard as I could with a 5 wood - and made it - tap in birdie.;) (so can only be 200yards)

Played it many times since and never got across first time.....

It was very scarey when I first saw it - the first tee was only about 150 yard carry but understand it has been moved back more now

You not only have to carry the raveine on the 3rd but some bushes they've put in. It would be about 200 carry if you went left but that would leave you in bad shape for your second.

The 7th par 3 was 150 off the yellows and 190 off the whites. I had a crack at the 235 carry off the blues. But was almost impossible to get your driver to stop on the green

could well have been 150 carry when I played it - making a 200 yard carry would have me smiling now- a good few years on

Yeah it's 210 off the back tee now - that's a bloody scarey tee shot

Better golfer than me - 235 carry would beyond me 99.99% of the time. There was no alternative route was there?

On the 3rd when the use the tournament tee it's about 300 yards to get to the fairway and about 200 to clear the ravine and rubbish

Sure I wasn't on the tournament tee - and you would be surprised how many good spots I can find to lay up in the rubbish:lol: Couldn't lay up in that ravine though!

Last year played in a Pro-Am at Broadstone in Dorset where they limit handicaps to 20 (just squeezed in) - largely because of the forced carries over Heather...very intimidating!

It's intimidating regardless of handicap mate. Seen a few 150 carries over water that have humbled scratch players

The golf pro said that they very rarely play the 3rd as a par 5 even in top events as many players cant get across. He said if the wind turns mid round then its almost impossible and unfair so they play it as a par 4. when I was there they didnt even have markers on the 3rd tee but still took it on on all 6 rounds for fun

The most eye opening stories I got told on the green line tour through Nicosia

Lots of stories from the NATO lads there - plus the cars stuck in there

There is an old man who walks around Ay Nik village who before the war was the richest man on the island - his belongings and house where on the Turkish side after the war so was left with nothing
This takes me back, my Dad was stationed at Akrotiri from 71-74 and we had to come back to the UK due to the war.I have great memories of Cyprus but understand its been built on a lot since those days, as for the cars stuck in no mans land apparently new cars are still in the showrooms in the no go zone.

There are two of them - A red Toyota with 6 miles on the clock and a yellow Nissan with 12 miles on the clock - immaculate due to the Canadians restoring them. You see them during the green line tour
