Custom Fitting

I forgot to say ; the main reason I'm getting custom fit is because of my height , so the main aspect of custom fitting, for me, is lengthening the clubs a bit.

Ps: Im 15 and 6ft 2. :D

I doubt it will make the blindest bit of difference at your stage of golfing development.

For what it's worth, I am 6'1 and have never had longer shafted clubs and have done okay. I can't see that 1 inch would make a big difference, although my lovely wife would probably beg to differ!

PS - decided to sign off every post with my name now as it seems to annoy Chris! :-)

Doesn't annoy me it just seems pointless. But if it give some meaning to your life then go ahead.

Don't forget when you get custom fitted to buy a gps then cat 1 beckons before the year is finished

To be honest, you should see my figure, that probably determines why I need custom fit. I'm quite tall, but don't have long arms. I'm also very skinny !

Huge meaning. Almost as important to me as the posts that consist of simply "+1".

My advice for what its worth is dont be to quick to get custom fit clubs.

At your age I would suggest having lessons, playing for a year or so, getting a swing and setup thats repeatable, then go for c/f clubs.

I got c/f clubs early in the season and was very pleased with them,I had four rounds under parr in two weeks, but later in the year I started playing very inconsistantly.

I'm sure the reason for this is something in my swing or setup has altered slightly,so my c/f clubs are not much benifit with this altered swing,so I will have to work on my swing to get back to where it was when I had my c/f.

btw my h/c is 21 and I'm 57, and as you are a lot younger you are going to progress (hopefully) very quickly,so get your swing ingrained and I,m sure this will make you a better player and get your h/c down quicker.

that is why i am getting them. my swing isnt bad, i just put it in my sig as a joke. now i do have a good swing, and to be honest i'm getting clubs because blades arent right for me, and for a few extra quid ill get it custom fit. its custom fit from my pro- so he can alter them if my swing takes a turn for the worst

Ally if you're 15, then it's likely you are still growing (scary thought if you're already 6ft 2!). If you have another growth spurt and end up 6 4" or 6 5", you'll have a set of CF clubs that simply aren't right. I really wonder what your pro is playing at advocating CF for a teenager in the middle of the fastest growth period the human body undergoes.

Sorry to sound like a killjoy but I really think it's worth waiting for both your body and technique to calm down!

EDIT: I'm just remembering back to when I was 15... nobody could tell me anything as I was an annoying smartarse. In which case, enjoy your new clubs! ;)

I totally agree with you , and that's why I questioned my pro THOROUGHLY before being sure .
I said that "what if I keep on growing " or " what if my swing changes"
He sad he will length pen them or shorten for me if I grow or shrink ;)
And If my swing changes he would alter them for me .
I wouldn't be getting them unless I knew they would benefit me for the long term .

Sounds like the pro is prepared to take a bit of responsibility for any future tweaks needed, in which case, happy shopping. Let us know how the C/F goes as it sounds like you will have a few special requirements.

My pro told me the exact opposite, I'm 5ft 6 so I'm no midget but I'm not very tall yet and I do struggle a bit with the longer clubs such as the driver, I spoke to my pro and he said the shaft may be a little long but he said there is no point getting a CF as I'm growing quite fast so in six months the clubs won't fit any more, so he told me to get off the shelf clubs and I'll just grow into them, it is frustrating at times though
