Custom Fitting

Cavity is the way to go off 20 and with a changing swing. They will give you the forgiveness for the bad days and still help you come down to a figure where a c/f option may be better suited. At your level I have to be honest and say an off the shelf brand would help. The only thing your pro might need to advise on would be the flex but at your age I'm pretty certain a bog standard off the shlef regular would do the trick. Get your swing working regularly, get cut and reassess

Alot of professional players are using cavity backs these days.

I am using the nike ignite irons, good irons as I quite like the thin look. However I have been working on my ball contact and compared to the g20 irons I have been testing there is no argument, fully custom fitted cavities are the way forward for me.

I had a go with the Nike VR pro blades and although they were sweet I couldnt work the ball as well as I like to.

Its all about personal preference, however lower handicap doesn't equal blades and vica versa for cavities.

Ash!!

Laughing my head off here, damn iPad autocorrects everything !
Thanks for the feedback guys, I'm not going to make the same mistake I did before. Most probably going to get cavity back such as ping g20, but we'll see how my custom fit session goes on Sunday.
Still crackin up about that autocorrect, that is the worst I've ever done

Eh? You couldn't work the ball well with blades?

"As well as I like to"

The g20 in comparison was a better club for me.

I used blades alot when I was younger and for me the cavity back is winning the race.

Ash!!

So a club designed to keep the ball straight is easier to work than one with no forgiveness?

You do realise you don't need to put your name and two exclamation marks at the end of your posts it has your name to the left.

I'll stick to doing what I am doing thanks. The g20 is a great club that is really workable.

As for me writing my name, its a superstition thing, like keeping my ball marker in my left pocket always.

Thanks for your concern.

Ash!!

I agree that the g20 is a great club, I found it very easy to hit and looked better than expected at adress. As for the workability aspect, I'm not so sure, but I've only hit a few balls with it.

Don't worry too much about working the clubs yet fella, work on getting your swing in tune.

It will all come with time.

Totally agree mate. for me I could not go for a custom fit as my swing is not the same day in day out, in fact make that from 1 shot to the next.

Unless you grow and shrink from day to day your wrist to floor measurement will be constant, your hand size will be constant etc..? My custom fit was more or less a static fit but with a few swooshes with the Mizzy DNA club to get the right shaft.

It was awful, it's now normal. My swing is quite repetitive so not difficult

Mate, you have clearly made great progress looking at your handicap, however if I were you I would stay with what I had for a little while longer untill you have come down some more, your swing will evolve further and become much more repetitive, then it will be worthwhile being custom fitted.

Best bit of CF I have had this year is my putter!!

You should go for it. Golf is mostly about the equipment you use. Custom fitted irons should get you into single figures relatively quickly.

Cheers,

Snelly

PS - decided to sign off every post with my name now as it seems to annoy Chris! :-)

Is it ? suitability of equipment yes, i would agree to that , dont know much (nothing) about CF , but would it be a good idea for someone 15 to get custom fit , surely he is at an age where his body is still maturing , he will grow more & fill out more so will the benifit of the custom fit last long enough to bother with it ?

I forgot to say ; the main reason I'm getting custom fit is because of my height , so the main aspect of custom fitting, for me, is lengthening the clubs a bit.

Ps: Im 15 and 6ft 2. :D
