Hi guys, as some of you might know i am having great difficulty using my driver at the moment and wouldnt mind going to see a pro to see which driver suits me best.

Can anyone recommend a good place to go. Ideally a driving range so i can hit the balls and not just into a net.
I,m not really after a certain type(although am praying they say, hey calloway suits you best haha).

Let me know where you guys think would be good, past experiances etc.

cheers!

If you are fairly new to golf, the driver will be the most difficult club to use. When you see a pro, the first requirement may be for a lesson. When I first started, I had to leave the driver in the bag. My first sub 100 round was made by using my 3 iron from the tee. ( they had not invented the Cobra Baffler back then )

i already do this. My 4 iron off a tee is going a good 200 yrds down the middle so am ok for now. My mate is a pro and has already told me i should consider a draw bias and possibly a stiffer shaft then regular but not as stiff as stiff (4 maybe) so would like to get my swing speed measured etc.

Hi Tony,

I have only just gone back to using a driver now that I feel I am swinging half decently. I have been using a 3wood off the tee for the last 3 months and in that time had my first sub 80 round. A good 3wood shot will not be that far behind the driver and should be easier to hit.

A golf magazine recently done a test on 3woods, and drivers. According to there tests the new drivers are so good that there is not that much difference in 'wayward shots' so 'safety' off the tee with a 3wood is different now then it was 5-10 yr ago providing you have modern equipment.

Cheshire is a big county Tony, but if you are anywhere near the Welsh side, there is an excellent range at Clays Golf Club near the Wrexham Industrial Estate. They have a large selection of demo drivers there, and very good range balls. Richard Edwards is a teaching Pro there. He will sort you out

I expected to see dave suggest clays. (I'm off there soon)

t.b.h. I used a 3 wood only for the first year or so, and resorting to this club has been the savior of my game when the chips are down.

If folks are recommending a 3 iron as a fair compromise, why not look at at 3Hybrid. If you got one to use generaly, then got onto regular driver worship, it'll be in the bag for fairways and long par 3s.

I'm waiting for a new Callaway 20 degree Hybrid (Heavenwood). If all goes well, a) I'll pass on my MD 21 degree club and b) my 5 wood might also come out of the bag, since that's the club I use on short/tight driving holes.

I have heard many pros saying a modern 460 driver is as easy to use as anything.....but only with plenty of loft. If you go for a custom fit, don't rule out an HT (13 degree) Callaway (they don't do 12 a.t.m.). Easy to hit, and not hard to keep straight.
