hi iam new to this forum so here goes.
I have just recently joined my local golf club (St.Austell in cornwall) and have achieved a handicap of 18, in my bag I have a mixture of different make and weights of clubs and was wondering if getting a custom set fitted from a store or just plump for a good name cheap set you find on numerous golf sites?
Also Taylor made r7 driver advertised at most sites at £149.99 is this any good or is it being replaced by another model. Many thanks

Hi punchbowl - welcome to the forum. This is one of the best and most knowledgable (thanks to Birdieman!!) forums out there. 18 is a great handicap to start off with. I would suggest going out with your club pro with a number of sticks and let him see you hit them, benefit from his advice then do a pricerunner search to get the best deal then go back to him and tell him what's out there and see if you can negotiate a good price. I wouldn't worry about out of date models as they bring clubs out every 5 seconds these days so whatever you buy will be old stock within the year.
Never buy anything without hitting them first - have made that mistake and it's expensive!!

Hi Punchbowl.
I was lucky enough to get a set of Titleist 755 irons from GM a few months ago after a very thorough custom fit session in Cambridgeshire. I would never buy a set of clubs off the shelf again. I have been playing for about 10 years (now off 8)and the feeling of finally hitting a quality club out of the middle of the face as opposed to the heel or toe of the face has to be experienced to be believed. the custom fit doesnt cost anymore but clearly you have to buy from your pro or a shop rather than through the web.
However, if you have any problems with them at all you can walk into the pro with them and demand action! :D

you only live once - get em custom fit, you wont regret it.
regards
Richard

hi punchbowl,
welcome to the forum i totally agree with rnd get custom fitted for clubs normally around £50 but if you buy the clubs there and then the fee for fitting is knocked off, not everybody does this so shop around, keep us informed!!!
