Custom fit today....gained 22.5 yards with my 6 iron!!!

I think you should keep all of them and just get a couple of new Mizuno tour bags and a set of JPX woods. Then you can have a full set of clubs for each day of the week :D

I did read somewhere last week when I was searching out the best prices for Mizuno clubs, that they were in short supply for a while and may take until late May to deliver.

Snainton Golf were had some of the best online prices for Mizuno. I went into Direct Golf and American Golf and asked for their best price, each knows I went to the other. Everything quoted so far compares with Snainton so I will probably buy local when I'm confident I have the right gear lined up.

Had a Mizuno fitting at New Malden today. I always suspected my shafts weren't right and this proved it beyond all doubt.

I've always had decent length with my woods but been pretty short with my irons. Well that's all about to change as my 6 iron is going from 155 yards (MP62's with DGR300 shafts) to 178 yards (JPX800 pro with Proj X rifle 5.5).

Superb session with Mark Yonwin at the National fitting centre.

I'll post the figures in a sec for anyone who's into geek data!! :D
WOW, I though it was just me but I have Mizuno MP62's and whilst they're arguably the straightest irons I've used I lost alot of distance compared to the MX23's they replaced. I thought it was just my swing change and the winter weather which dropped my distance but it carried on into April so I found a cheap set of Titleist 710 CB irons and found with my 7 iron I went from 130-135 yrds with the MP62's to 158-165 with the titleists, which is just ridiculous.
So I sacrificed a bit of accuracy to feel like a man again ;)

Anyone want to buy some MP62's?

Nice Rick, How come you got fitted at the national fitting centre and then got the clubs from AG? Was there a big price difference? Also I was going to say the same as Ian about the lofts, really your playing a 5 iron. That said the JPX are infamously long, when I was fitted for my MP-53 the fitter said I was 10-15 yards longer with the JPX Pro but they were not as tight for me. I would guess you could play with anything though really Rick... and let’s face it, you have tried, hehe. Those Nike blades are a sexy bit of kit, shame to see them go just from an aesthetics point of view.

Will you be trying the MP or JPX woods out? I know you like things to match up. I think the MP woods have a pretty innovative weighting system. I have not heard anyone rave about them though, as per the usual Mizuno wood indifference.

Welcome back to club Mizzy (not that your really left)

I've not tried the JPX Driver, but Rick, feel free to have a crack with my 3 wood when we're at Beau. It's a Beaut.

I saw that you had ended up with one of these but I think it happend when I was off becoming a daddy. I seem to remember the last we talked that you had your eye on the 910F. Is there a post about your fitting or shopping? I played the JPX when I had my GM fitting(See this months mag, Im the good looking one!! :D) I found the JPX with the inhouse shaft to be solid but maybe unspectacular for me.

Nice result Rick..
Don't forget, though, that the 800 Pro 6 iron is already 2degrees stronger than your 62's and you had it de-lofter by another degree. That could mean 10-15 yards purely on loft.
Still a good result though
Enjoy - I know you will

Just checked this myself. I'd put at least 8 yards of it definatly down to the loft.

I always found that S300's gave me a bit of a ballon type flight but I acutally found the PX even worse.
Happy with my X100's and will probably try to get some X200's or 300's next time.
Never been a fan of the PX at all.

You may or may not be interested to know I checked my lofts and the lie of my clubs the other day. First time since Mizzy fitting. I found them all to be the same as they should be when purchased a 20 months ago. I then put strike tape on and tested every single club, not surprisingly the 6 iron was spot on. As were the 3,4 and 5. However after having spoken to my pro I am getting the 7i bent a degree further upright and 8i - Lob wedge 2 degrees upright.

Interesting to have a play with. You could argue that when they custom fit you for a set off a 6i then the only club truly custom fit would be the 6i!!

Good luck when you get the new irons though.

So are you selling the MP62's then? What condition are they in?
Less than a year old so pretty good but with the usual bag chatter and scratches. The 6 iron has a stone chip right on the bottom but doesn't affect playability. Will be posting piccies in the for sale section later tonight.

The fitting centre at New Malden only recommend the clubs, they don't take cash or the order. The AG is part of the centre (big range, AG, Costa Coffee, Jurassic Adventure Golf). Have to say that the place was heaving when I went there, nearly every bay full on the range - lots of families and groups - seems golf is very popular down that way. We also had a go on the Jurassic Adventure golf (with my wife and son), it was really good fun, and a couple of the holes were incredibly difficult.

I've got the MP woods, Driver, 3 woods and 17deg hybrid.

I think they are great clubs best 3 wood i've had.

Good point Imurg. The 22 yards increase was before he delofted it by another degree as well and we didnt measure the delofted club on the Vector so should see an extra 5 yards at least hopefully on top of that with the finished set.

Just need to keep working in my lessons on my early release as that also robs me of distance. But at last I feel like I can stand on the tees soon and not be Mr Shorty with my irons any more.:D

Probably going to take a while to get used to the new yardages out on the course. Could end up airmailing a few greens in the near term... :o :D

The Mizuno fitting centre is upstaire & AG is downstairs. You have your fitting, then you get given the spec sheet and then you are free to go wherever you want to get the irons. AG send the order through to Mizuno and then Mizuno deliver them to AG.

I actually hit my Nike 6 iron on the monitor and it just showed how unsuitable they were for me, (well the shaft anyway) My carry was 163 yds with a total of 172. Backspin was right down to 4386. But the telling stat was the clubhead speed.....only 77.7 mph, ( 10 mph down on the JPX and 20 mph down on the MP62's!!!! :o ) If ever you need proof that buying off the shelf is a bad idea!!! In reality, if the Nikes had a lighter shaft, then I should be able to swing it faster and should get very respectable distances, but the price to change shafts isn't worth it.....a very expensive lesson learned..

Don't forget I already have the MP630 fast track driver & MP 3 wood....nice but not as long as the Nike VR. Although I like to match, I'm not going to do it at the expense of yardage, (and it's quite a lot - probably 15 - 20 yds difference)

yep, I think owning 3 sets of mizzies at the same time gets me a lifetime honorary membership!! :D

That's probably not a bad way of summing it up. It was between the JPX and the Titliest. The Titliest might have been *slightly* better and felt a bit nicer, but the JPX is plenty forgiving (except when I'm swinging like a hacker) and ultimately, it was the price that made the decision as I got the JPX for £95 which is around £70-£80 cheaper than the Titliest.

Long story short - the Titliest wasn't 80 quid better than the JPX.

And I just went for the stock JPX with stiff shaft. It's a really nice club to swing. Don't need to put any effort in at all.

I agree with region - S300 would have been interesting too,

I've got these in the Nikes and they are just waaaay too heavy. The DNA showed I need a lighter shaft and the S300 was way over on the right hand side of the chart. This was demonstrated when I swung my Nike 6 iron and the reading was down 10 mph from the JPX with the PX 5.5 and down 20 mph on MP 62 with the DGR300.

Of course it might just be that I have puny arms!!!:D

I, like you have a light shaft in my irons, its shocking though that a heavy shaft cost you 10mph on an iron swing but more shocking still is that your distance was still better with -10mph than with the MP62.

I like the light shaft but find I like something more mid weighted in my woods to help keep the ball down.

I emailed Mark at Mizuno about this and he reckoned the extra distance was pretty much down to the long roll. He said I was catching the mat before the ball with the Nike and it was this that brought the backspin down. The balloon flight on the MP62's didn't help either.

Also commented that although distance was good, ball flight was poor and would be difficult for me to stop the ball on the green.

I've already decided to sell them, so that's 3 sets going into the for sale section tonight & tomorrow!! :o :D

Hope they find a good home from someone on here, Your Nikes with pretty boy head covers(i know i have them too :o) should be in great knick still(cough* Steve Hassack there would look good on you!! :D) and all you have to do is tell Astec that his swing is good enough for the 62s. MX200`s sell them self.
