Is it time for golf clubs to consider an annual cull of older golfers?
It seems some, presumably younger forumers would be in favour.
We could also ban them from driving, entering supermarkets and any other places they get in the way of younger people.
Incidently I was young once, " quell surprise".

Absolutely. Get rid of the old duffers asap!

Then the youngsters can take up positions on the committee, take on organising, starting and marshalling events, managing the handicaps, etc etc etc. Golf and golf clubs would be much healthier.

Of course in the daytime, mid-week when all the young uns are busy earning a crust to keep their rug rats fed and healthy, there will be plenty of time the green keepers to keep the empty golf courses in tip top condition.

Great initiative. What age do you propose as a cut off?

I would Leave the cut off to the younger guys
I can see tremendous benefits if it was pretty drastic, say 60!
I like your comment re running some clubs
Also everyone could play in jeans and collarless shirts and perhaps compulsory tattoos of their club badge on the calfs when wearing cargo shorts
Hey , it is beginning to seem quite attractive, pity I am a couple of decades too late!

I agree. The club could fold because there would be no one to run it and we could sell the course for housing and my pension would be well supplemented.

On the other hand I would have nothing to spend the money on.

I am "a younger guy" and i have no issues with any older member of our club or any club, we have an unwritten thing in our club that the older blokes play in the morning on medals and the "younger guys" play in the afternoon, its just the way it has been, we all put the same money behind the bar and pay the same fees so we should have the same rights.

Not sure what you're basing this thread on...

Great idea, can we start with ex-gunners followed by RAF, any order after that ;)

Sounds serious - what age is the OP advocating?

60 apparently. That would suit me as I now have 5 years to plan my retirement and all future holidays could be based around relaxation instead of golf. As has already been mentioned, my pension pot would also be greatly enhanced with the sale of much sought after building land.

Great thread for an argument.

How about we do it on handicap? Everyone who doesn't get below 15 in the first 2 years of playing gets culled?:ears: I suppose you could incorporate age into it. Once a golfer drifts back over 15 they have 3 months to sort it or they're out

good idea, it can be like Logans Run

i was all in favor of it last night thats for sure.

decided to play Fortrose last night as Nairn have its 4 day open on and the course is closed.

3 old guys were teeing off as i arrived. Had the dogs with me so took a good 10 mins to get sorted. caught them up on the 2nd tee. They then spend 10 mins looking for a ball about 100 yards in from of the tee. caught them again on the 3rd tee, despite playing 2 balls and having a fair few putts. watched them look for a ball on the 4th and 5th, so i said to one of them why didn't they just let me though while they looked for balls...? so they say.. you have no standing on the course, so said to them if you are going to quote rules i suggest you have read them in the last 10 years. made no difference off the toddled with not a soul in front of them. Got speaking to a woman while i waited on the 6th tee who was admiring the two dogs. she also said she was a member and how disgraceful the 3 ball had been not letting me though. She also said quite a few of the male seniors were just the same and never let anyone though.

made may presence known to them on every hole on the way in with 2 and 3 balls;)

This happens to me all the time around our course, In my opinion you shouldn't have to ask to be let through, people should be aware enough to notice you.
