Hi there, just wondering if its normal to have a seperate CSS for vistors in an open competition?

I have played quite a few opens in the past but have only ever had +0.1s so the issue never raised its head.

Then yesteraday i shoot 39 points on a course ive never played before and, although my handicap hasnt been updated yet, I seen the overall CSS was 37points but no split for visitors. Is the club obliged to split it?

Looking at the results 15 of the 21 visitors shot 30 or below.

There is usually a visitor CSS if there is a certain number of them playing IIRC. I cant remember the amount needed to require one though.

I don't know about this but it does seem weird to me to have a visitors CSS! Surely the CSS is the CSS no matter whom you are?

Playing a course without home knowledge makes it very tough. I would say without a seperate CSS for visitors they would mostly get a +0.1

I suppose it depends on who and how many.

our 8 and below open does not have an visitor score, but the senoirs open does.

Tain has had one in the past and i think Royal Dornoch always have one.

It depends on the numbers of "home" players, I think. Single CSS if only a small number, separate if there are a lot of them.... 20ish seems to ring a bell!

Sounds as if there should be an away CSS, a nice little cut for your day out.
I saw an article recently where it is anticipated on average visitors CSS is 1.5 shots higher than home players.

Ladies only or mixed, I can understand ladies only not having a visitors one but mixed opens should.

Ladies... probably due to relatively small number of entries.

Never played a mixed individual open but I'd guess they'd have separate CSS for men and women anyway.... so maybe four different CSS's!

without all the stats it's impossible to make a comparison to the expected results, let alone the relationship between a VCSS and other!

what was the SSS of the course played? what was the par? ie did the calculated CSS change from the SSS?

of the 21 visitors how many were cat 4?

etc etc etc

it's normal to operate seperate calculations if there are enough players, as already pointed out.

congratulations on your cut anyway - if you were off 12.0 you are now playing off 11.
