Crazy Links situation

Can anyone explain the absolute insanity in having the biggest golf tournament in the world being played on links courses. These courses are hardly ever used on the big tours. I think het the open should continue to be played on links courses but they should put more links courses on the world tours.
The current situation is akin to getting into the final of the world cup and finding out that instead of playing football you are going to play ice hockey to find out whose the best team????
Thanks

You must know that very few links courses are played on the major tours. The way to improve this is to put more links courses on the tours. And im 15 so it was just J2O

My apologies Sammy.
Going back to your point. The Open has always been played on links courses. Britain has many fantastic courses that are not links courses but playing the Open on one of them would not be the same (bit like playing the Cup Final at Twickenham)
The type of land that links courses are built on occurs naturally and (I believe) can't be created for the purpose of building golf courses.
Once again, sorry for jumping to the wrong conclusion. Not a good example to set a young golfer.

Im not saying that the R & A should move the Open from links courses. All im saying is that they should put more tournaments played on links courses in the calendar.
No apology neccesary it was a poorly written letter.

I agree totally.
There should be more european tour events on links courses. Mind you, I expect that the reason is to do with the Europeans then not competing with the yanks in the other 3 majors, if they spend more of their time on the links (but then they don't anyway).
Question:
Why is the 'Scottish open' played in Scotland, the spiritual home of links golf, tied to a park land course like Loch lomond (that no-one else can ever play).
I agree you need the land to build a links course, but there is plenty of coast in the rest of the world, not just scotland and kent.

Hey Shanker, wee Sammy put your gas at a peep when he told you he was only 15. I laughed out loud for the first time in ages, thanks for that mate. Yer 100% gentleman.

Sammy, everybody agrees with you and to be fair, the Scottish Open used to be held at links courses but it never attracted big names until Barclays sponsored it and then all the bug guns (except Tiger) flock for an easy pay day.

Without getting into the anti-yankie state of mind, I think the European Tour and the PGA could have more say in where events are held. Maybe it's because of player pressure. I think the Americans like target golf without wind, rain and wearing 2 jumpers. I don't think they like their foibles to be highlighted.
