courses around edinburgh?

heading up to my mates easter weekend or weekend after,i think we're going to play the jubilee course at st andrews which doesnt seem bad value for around £40,he's played it before and rates it,he's a fellow yorkshireman and has been living around edinburgh about 4 yrs now,currently in larbert. he's heard of a few decent courses but not played all that many so i was wondering if any of you guys north of the border could recommend good value for money courses that are worth playing. another mate of mine mentioned north berwick links and the dalmahoy.any advice appreciated

Theres quite a few good courses round Edinburgh and hard to pick a few that really stand out. Dalmahoy is a good course but if you aint got 6 or 7 hours to play then dont bother.

Baberton just off the Edinburgh bypass is a decent roliing parkland course, £32 a round I think. Relaid their greens a couple of years ago so dont know how they are now.

thanks chaps keep them coming,we only get to go up once a year or at the most twice so i definately want to visit the 'home'of golf so just looking for a really good course around edinburgh to play the day after.

Mortonhall is beautiful and Duddingston is also nice.

How far are you prepared to travel from Edinburgh? East Lothian and Fife are within 45 mins drive and are littered with superb links courses.

my mate said distance isnt a problem as its not a regular thing we are wanting to play a couple of nice courses

Fairly near Edinburgh:

Gullane are doing good deals this time of the year 1st and 2nd course for £40 and £30 and 3rd for £20 - can't say fairer than that!

Have you played Drumoig recently? I pass it by on my way to play St Andrews and the courses in the East Neuk. To me Drumoig is a long, wet slog but then I haven't played it in years hence the reason for asking.

It is so difficult to narrow the choice of courses near Edinburgh, but try the following:
East of Edinburgh, Longniddry, Luffness, Gullane, North Berwick, The Glen, Dunbar.
South of Edinburgh, Kingsacre, Mortonhall, The Braids, West Linton.
West of Edinburgh, Dalmahoy, Ratho Park, Harburn, Deer Park, West Lothian.
North of Edinburgh, Aberdour, Leven Links, Lundin Links, Elie, Crail, Ladybank, St. Andrews.
These are but a few that are within about 40 minutes drive of Edinburgh, although I'm sure there are many more that I can't recall off the top of my head.
