The course
Is a modern style two loops of nine bringing you back to the clubhouse with the 1st and 10th tees outside the Pros shop and clubhouse.
There are four par 5s, two of which can be lengthened by another 100 yards each for major competition play. The par 3s vary in distance from 130 to 200 yards and there are a couple of shortish par 4s where strategy plays as much a part as big hitting.
Their signature hole is the 15th, a downhill par 4 of 360 yards with the second played past a lake to a two-tier green. But it is not what you would call a truly memorable hole.
The front nine has back to back par 5s (3rd and 4th) but the latter plays straight uphill and longer than its 475 yards indicates. The 8th is a 90 degree left short par 4 where you cut off as much as you dare.
The back nine plays longer and has few notable holes outside of the aforementioned 15th.
Test Valley is a nice enough course but the few times I have played there I have always driven away thinking it was nothing special. The people there try hard but I have seen more atmosphere on the moon. Unfortunately it is just your standard 20-year old course that hasn't yet matured and will remain the same for the next 20 or so years too.
