A new course record was shot on Wednesday in the midweek stableford 65 (-5) by a bandit 3 h/caper  but it is not being recorded as such because it was a stableford comp.
apparently to be valid and recorded as such the score needs to be made in a medal comp.

It is recommended I think that scores only count in Medal rounds but it is not a rule governed by the R&A and so is up to each club to.decide

If he did not have a blob then he must have holed out on every hole so there you have it , should stand then , never heard of a 3 handicap bandit , thats a new one ..........................EYG

There's a slightly different mind set between Stableford and medal play IMHO. I.e , do I go for a safe par or risk a double bogey , try for birdie , eagle or double eagle lol. So I don't think it should count as a course record.

Incorrect, never heard of a gimme ? Just because he didn't blob doesn't mean he holed out......

But if he did, then it should stand

Maybe for a higher handicapper but a player off 3 probably plays every round in a similar fashion to Medal because they don't have the margin for error.

I've never understood this theory personally.

however, back on topic, if the fella knocked it round in 65 strokes, he knocked it round in 65 strokes, whether it's medal or stableford is of absolutely no consequence. From a scorecard perspective, he is required to mark it the same way for both formats so as long as he completed every hole and everything else is in order, it's the course record.

I'd probably disagree.....

We had a (rare) Stableford comp today and I played a number of shots differently than I would have off the tee.

Although, I'm not a low handicap by any stretch! I do think there is a difference in approach though.

I agree! But whether it's recognised as such depends on the rules of the Club. And if it says only Medal comps, then only Medal comps it is!
