Cost of new clubs, how much would you pay??

Kinda pointless post.... its going to depend on how much you earn, how much you spend, how much you like golf and the value you put in the kit....

Randomly no indication if the kit even works for the op.....

Not that much.

I'm in the hunt for a new hybrid, got £80 tucked away and probably because I'm a tight Yorkshireman its painful letting the money go without a good look round for a good deal!! Don't think at my handicap and the amount I pay I could justify paying £300+ for a driver. Not needed at my level.

Don't even think somebody's earnings is all that relevant, when it comes to people's spending habits for hobbies.
I've a mate with a great job, earns several times what I ( and mates) do, but he's as tight as.......*@&%*......!!!

I take my own view because I know, through experience, that £150-300-400 driver is going to have very little difference to my game now
I used to buy the latest driver all the time, yes, I was one of "them"......change once or twice a year.
But as stated earlier, I believe very little has changed in driver advancements for a while now, infact since the C.O.R Ruling, which IMO is a shame.
I'm still a believer in 2 sets of rules, pro/amateur......but that's another story.

I'm in a situation where I could compfortably afford the latest model driver, with whatever shaft, but I will defenitely make my next new driver purchase from 1 of last seasons models, for reasons stated.

totally agree, money is no object for me and i wouldn't want to spend more than £200..

If I buy new then it will be last year's model or even year before. Driver £150, Irons £350, Putter ??? Most I've spent is £40. Wedges are always 2nd hand so 30-40. Bag under £50.

The only thing that would make me swap my clubs now would be custom fitting - never experienced that.

£150, probably a model from a couple years back. I really cant imagine tech changes that much in such a short amount of time.

This too.

Always get my kit second hand or old. My game just isn't worth spending any more on.

I like to do the odd trip during the year. A far better use of my golfing (and skiing) budget.

Last time I went for a custom fit, irons and woods, it was a huge disaster. The measurements I got from the fitter were pretty much what I've had before and since but the the irons and driver saw me shooting 10 over handicap round after round. Over £800 spent, most lost on resale within the year.

I then bought second hand off the 'bay, using the spec I'd been given. The difference was night and day, and within in a year my h'cap had come down two shots.

No I don't buy new.

I bought the i20 driver when that was new at £250. And up until a few weeks ago i was dead set on buying the new vapor driver when that came out. In the mean time i experimented with an ex demo SLDR from eBay and its been a revelation...i've ended up buying the 3 and 5 wood since, 5 wood was still in its wrapper and the 3 wood could have passed for new - all in they cost £380... the Vapor would have been £250-350 depending on model.

Think i'll always go down the ebay route...if it doesn't work out i'll stick it back on and maybe lose a couple quid.

All that said i bought the Nike MMprotos when they were released. Not exactly cheap.

Think it depends on the club/situation.

If a club or item of golfing accessory worked then I would pay what is needed to get the item

All my clothes and equipment was bought brand new

I don't see the issue. If you want to pay that much (and assuming you aren't sending the family down the road to pay) then why not. It's called consumer choice. A lot of the top name brands see to be around a similar price mark so really don't think Mizuno are doing anything different. Of course, for that amount of money you could invest in numerous lessons and learn to use the clubs you already have that bit better!

Everything you buy this year will be a little bit more expensive than it was last year. A ford focus will cost you a little bit more than it did this time last year etc etc. why should golf clubs be any different??
I'm not a tinkerer and don't change clubs very often, so I go and get fitted for what I need and what I like and just pay the money, it's only money and you can't take it with you, golf is my hobby and I like spending money on my hobby. Better than blowing it in the bookies or down the pub, at least I have something to show for my cash.
£473 for a new driver is a bit steep though, I think mines was £280 when I got it, got the 3 and the hybrid at the same time, pretty sure the 3 were about 500 odd when I bought them, my irons were just under 600.

I would happily pay what is needed for the right gear but I dont change my gear that often.

Some golfers can spend little but change driver more often, so actually end up spending more than someone who forks out one-time for a top spec driver and upgraded shaft.

Have just spent £310 on a new 915 d2 but will be keeping for a long time, spent £600 on my ping irons, hybrid and 5 wood. It does seem a lot for one club though.

got to say that's too much, if you put all the components together then it would be lucky to top £50, I don't buy this it's to cover development costs and presence on tour malarkey.
It's a huge mark up when you look at the price so called lesser brands price points with adjustability as well, plus an adaptor only cost £15 max.
It's us the consumer that are the mugs for buying it at that price, and for what an extra 5 yards over the years?
(And I'm the worst culprit of all!)

I'd struggle to pay three figures for a driver

My current Caly driver was £70 2nd hand from AG and when I see whats available for £99 & under (both new and used) there really doesn't seem any justification to pay more for a player of my ability
