Was up the driving range last night getting a lesson and the new Mizuno woods had just arrived and getting put out on display.

I quite fancy one, as i like Mizuno woods and the Blue crown. They happened to have a JPX850 driver with the Motore Speedster 6.3 in stock, which is the same as whats in my SLDR.

How much???

£349 for that as its a £50 up charge for that shaft, £299 for the stock shaft.

Quite a price increase by Mizuno, i paid £199 new for the MP630 when that came out.

So is that too high a price?? how much would you pay for a driver?

Costs did seem to be stabilising a bit until the adjustables came on the scene.
I think I can honestly state that if I hadn't won my Bertha she wouldn't be in the bag - although they can now be picked up for reasonable amounts now 2nd hand. A couple of hundred would probably be my limit for any new single club...I tend to buy good 2nd hand rather than new.

That's cheap....! Guy at our club had a custom fit for a Titleist 915. Upcharged for the shaft. Cost £473!!

£150, probably a model from a couple years back. I really cant imagine tech changes that much in such a short amount of time.

This.

£150 at the absolute maximum, and i'd probably have to grovel to the missus to spend that much. My driver cost me £60 about 3 years ago. Struck well, it goes 300+ yards so I don't really see the need in shelling mega £££'s out for a new one, or any clubs for that matter.

Have never paid more than £100 for a single club, and have no intention of doing so in the near future as I can't justify the outlay. £350 is far too expensive for one club IMO, for an extra £30 I bought my set of irons brand new.

I prefer to pick up drivers either second hand or buy older models once they have been reduced to a fraction of their original price.

£473 for one club. That's ridiculous. That's £174 more than I paid for my brand new Covert 2.0 irons :/ I love a new bit of tech, but jesus christ, that's stupidly expensive.

I was looking at a Titleist 913 with a VTS upgrade and that was £420, so didn't bother.

Maybe the mizuno is not that expensive after all;)

£250 is the most I've paid for a driver and wouldn't go over that, £500 is my maximum for irons. There's so little difference between each years models that you're better off buying last years model when it's reduced.

After not playing regularly for 10 years I find myself having to upgrade everything in my bag. New irons, fairway wood and wedge bought, just a driver, hybrid, 1/2 more wedges and possibly a putter to go! It's costing an absolute fortune! £800 down, £620 to go!

Then there's all the clothing and gps I keep seeing online..... maybe it doesn't help that I keep looking!

I paid almost as much for my Irons as I did for my new Vapor driver. Pretty incredible really - and the irons were a new set back in 2012.

I probably wouldnt have bought the Vapor if I didnt have a good day at the Casino a few days before so I would say

£200 driver
£450 Irons

After everything I have bought, the best thing so far is my Vokey GW. Incredible bit of kit and the most important club in my bag (since my putting is horrendous) Probably say getting a good wedge that you feel comfortable with can use round the green and from 60 yards in, is where you money is better invested, rather than spending £300+ on a Driver.

I've made a promise to myself to never buy the latest model driver as brand new ever again.
I'm planning to change my driver soon (R11s), no other reason than I fancy a change, maybe back to black....??
But I will be buying a previous years model of something.....
Drivers haven't really improved a whole lot for a while now, so dont see the point of paying "stupid money".....??...!!!
£150-200 will get you a brand new driver of any manufacturers previous model, and not much changes in 12/18 months

If I wanted one, today's prices for stock drivers wouldn't bother me, I've spent more on a night out.

Would draw the line at fancy shaft upgrades at silly prices which would make next to no difference at my level.

Those prices are just ridiculous. Like all sports equipment the price is silly. Everything is so expensive now. For a drive £400+ is just dam right greed by the company's. How are you ment to bring you own children into the sport when you no it's going to cost an arm and a leg coz they want the latest gear. Sorry rant over and for a driver no more than £150. I can't justify that for 1 club.

This seems part of the trend to increase the price of the top end gear. When I started out playing, not that long ago, £199 was the price for a new release driver but now it is £350 plus. Yes, I know that there are always exceptions, especially where a manufacturer thinks that they have something so far ahead of everyone else (I remember my brother yearning for a Wilson Fatshaft decades ago) but as a whole I could go into AG and £199 was the price for the latest kit. It is not just drivers either, for some companies £120 plus is the norm for a pair of shoes, £30-£40 for a polo shirt, £40 for a box of premium balls, the list goes on.

For me, £150 is top end for a driver, £80 for a putter, £400 for irons, £20 for balls and £80 for a bag. Anything above that is hard to justify.

if you read the article I linked to above then they would disagree with that with regards to golf drivers at least. But it is US based and I know there are price differentials between the US and UK. Always in a bad way for us fans of shopping in the UK.

For me I'd say irons £500, Driver £250 or maybe £300 if the salesman was good, putter £100, balls £25 and bag £80. But this is assuming I change the irons, putter and driver every 4 or 5 years, bag every 2 or 3 years and balls when I lose them. So every week.

What ever is on the label for the right club. I got my driver while it was still TMs top offering. I paid an extra 100 to have the black tie shaft in it. The difference between the stock TP and the Black Tie shaft is worth the up cost. I remember paying over £300 for a TM driver 15 years ago, so the price hasn't changed that much for the latest top end kit.

Im just about to have a fitting for the new Nike Drivers having never spent a hundred quid on any driver in the past
I know im going to have to break my record and quite comfortably.
However having never been fitted for a driver and having changed a few times maybe its time to be properly
fitted and stick with it.
So if I pay £250 and keep it for 5 years that's £50 a year and just 1 pound a week now that's cheap.
That's how im going to justify it if I do part with my cash.
