Constructive criticism please .. and a gentle plug. ;)

A very good friend of mine has just launched a new golf website, the idea that this is a little bit different to what's already out there.

It is an online shop, but also if you wanted to become a member, there's discount from the shop, great prize draws each month, invitations to pro am's etc.

Have a look here Codegolf

Hi Neil.

Interesting. Though tbh, not sure what it's trying to be, a shop, a market place for advetisers, an information site?

It looks like it's built with the same software that I'm using, but it's quite slow to load. Perhaps too many moving images.

Personally I like to see a phone number on the home page, and the 'company profile' section doesn't tell us anything about the company, only about one of it's product ranges.

The graphics for the shopping mall are eyecatching, though it's a format that many customers will not be used to using, so it may put them off.

I won't go into any more detail, as I've had to learn this game the hard way, and I'm not about to give too much away.

In summary. I quite like the look of it, though I'm not sure what it is.

Wot he said.....

I like the idea of the elevator but it looks more like an inside of a prison than a golf/department store.

The home page is a bit fussy, too much going on and the windows change too quickly.

Also its not immediately obvious what the purpose of the web site is.

Plus side is that it looks polished, professional and is different.

Not for me, it made me feel sea sick after 20 seconds trying to figure out what the website was all about. Why would you want a golf website to be so dark and 'futuristic'?

Take a look at Grahams site, THAT is what a golf shop should look like.

not a bad website at all, have done a few myself a few years back and the main ctiticism people always have is they prefer sites to be more basic and easy to navigate. The images (slides) scroll through too quickly and the menu buttons seem to be more of an addon as opposed to an integration within the actual main site window... it doesnt look right (personal opinion of course)

Still a good looking site all the same and I dont think its a million miles from being spot on.

Not been through the whole site but I had no issues with the speed of loading.

I clicked on head-to-head out of curiosity and if the numbers in brackets are the players handicaps I wonder if they're typos.

The lady off 21 looks like she has a nice swing, and the guy off 10 looks like he needs holding up!

Sorry, not for me, I need something simple and easy and there's too much going on there. Went to look at the ecco shoes and found I was looking at the flybe ad!

Golfmmad.

Way too much going on for me. It's trying to be too many things and please too many people. I wouldn't want to pay £10 to join on the off chance I may be lucky in a comp at some point in the future. Not mad about the graphics either but on a positive note I had no problems with the speed of loading.

I'd be interested to know what the guys original vision was. I've a feeling this has metamorphisised from whatever it was

the overall look of the site is quite good and it's fairly simple to navigate. I quite likethe colours, they look 'clean'. Not sure I would have had tab keys at both side and top though, especially as you select differently named keys on each to get to the same place. Users are far more familiar with 'Back' or a back arrow than 'up a level'

it's gone a bit overboard on advertising and the rate at which they refresh is irritating - too many, too quickly. if he's earning from all of these he's done well.

couple of oddities, if I select 'Company Profile' I expect it to be about Codegolf not UnderArmour.
The Contact Us page is weak; white font on silver doesn't display well - I had to select all the address line to be able to read it.
The Trendygolf Ad doesn't load the page.

Not sure who the target market is, as has been said, it's not cheap and most of us shopping online are looking for the bargain.
good luck

Thanks for your comments guys. I did e-mail this thread link to Scott, and he's taken on board what's been said, and there will be a few changes very soon.

Thanks again.

I had it on page maximise and I couldn't get all the page on the screen. I had to keep scrolling up and down just to see what was there.

Which seemed a bit daft tbh.

Although I expect that's my bad, not his.

great site but in my opinion

A) too dark
b) over complicated
c) too varied

he definately using what you think he is graham, and fair play as a great deal of hours have gone into site design.

I fear that the over technical design and dark colour scheme is going to make customers give up before they actually get the real benifit of the site, which would be a shame for the effort thats gone in.
