I have to agree as well. I think no matter what level you play sport at to be motivated for the 3rd/4th play off is really difficult and I think it would only be natural to want to get off the course as quick as possible.

Yeah it's gotta be tough to throw away that extra 100 thousand, for coming third rather than fourth.
I mean 100 grand is nowt, who needs it

I think they do 3rd/4th matches just to have something to put on tv as covering only one match is not enough golf but I completely agree it's a waste of time.

The football world cup does the same - utterly pointless. Players totally deflated from losing a semi final are expected to raise their spirits and run around in the heat to play a meaningless game no-one cares about.

Don't get me wrong I agree that these runner up matches are pointless but my issue was that he knew the format of the event and so it was a possibility he could be in it. At least Villegas tried to give the crowd (was it me or was there hardly anyone there even for the final) and the viewers something to enjoy. Garcia just wanted it over as quickly as possible. I know money isn't the motivation for these top guys but the ranking points won't hurt and surely getting the RC and race to Dubai sewn up early will take undue pressure off later in the year. I just thought it was a sulky and petulant effort.

I agree with the sulky part but then I think he was annoyed with his game falling apart - particularly with it being RC year.
