Conceding putts in match play.

I'm quite generous - happy to give most putts within a putter handle

Never a game serious enough to make them putt out everything

I have at times before starting s match said "no gimmies", you can see the knees buckle and beads of sweat rolling immediately 😂😂

You might not give any but you can't stop your opposition from doing so. If I was tapping in 6" putts I'd pretty soon get brassed off with your plan

It's nothing to do with how serious it is, I just like to see putts holed out and if I think there's a chance of it being missed, then it isn't a gimme

i guess if the win is the most important thing then make them putt them all

Winning isn't the most important thing but if I'm gonna lose then I want it to be because I was beaten, not because I gave a few missable putts. My general theory is If I don't fancy it, my oppo is putting it

I just think it's more tactical, if I make my opponent putt everything he potentially gets into a groove, if I concede a few that he all most certainly won't miss there is a chance he'll miss the one I don't concede

Last part sounds right for me 👍

If someone gets annoyed at being asked to make a putt it's only because they fear missing it. All the more reason to ask them to make it.

Conceding putts can play a big psychological part in match play, conceding ones early in the match to half a hole deprives your opponent of getting his rhythm. also giving a couple of two footers then making them hole out from 12 inches puts doubt in the mind, I have been caught out by this in the past.

Nothing to stop you knocking the putt in after it is conceded, it doesn't matter if you miss, a concession can't be refused/revoked. I'm not a fan of the "give one early" concept. If there's a chance it'll be missed, make him putt it!

It would depend upon the quality of the player, previous putts, the state of play in the match etc.

I certainly have asked to see them and have seen them missed.

I cant ever recall seeing a 6" putt missed but then I cant recall not conceding one that length

Personally I can't be bothered with all that psychology nonsense, I expect to have to make every putt and if I'm given one I think is generous early on I'll putt it anyway once the hole is complete.

If people want to get embroiled in mind games they can fill their boots but if they expect me to be affected by it or follow suit they'll be disappointed.

I've missed one :o and have you never seen the old" I'll just tap this one in but hit the ground first putt totally missing the ball " putt :D

To be honest, no I haven't, but it might be worth asking to see it in just to enjoy the moment!

Most of my match play experience has been playing for the rabbits. I've seen plenty of very short putts miss in my time, often because they don't focus because they don't expect to have to putt them!

Gimmes have always been part of matchplay. They speed up play and reduce damage to the green around the hole, so shouldn't be discouraged. The important thing is not to get angry and to take your time if you are asked to hole a tidier. If you decide to concede an opponent's putt it is best to pick his ball up and throw or knock it back to him, so he doesn't get a chance to take a practice putt. A concession once made cannot be declined or withdrawn (rule 2-4). :)
