Hi all,

Just wanted to see what other clubs are doing with competitions? Are clubs running medals, stablefords, board comps, club championships, etc.?

My club seem to have a real aversion with running more than just a stableford each month. They almost think everything needs to be put on hold until things are back to normal. But this is normal now. Crack on.

Thanks in advance for replies.

We're back to normal now, we just had a revised schedule to try and get a few more comps in. But we have at least one every weekend but most weekend two comps on till the end of October.

My club and nearby clubs are running both medals and stablefords. My County has just run the Championship over 3 days and also the Boys' Champs. The U14 & U16 are next week.
All following R&A and CONGU instructions and with strict instructions about arrival and departure times and social distancing between rounds.

We are back to 3 a week but all comps are Stablefords as we do not anybody returning to the tee or continuing with a high score on hole.

The first medals with be the club champs delayed until September.

We cancelled all Opens when we first went back.

Re your comment 'normal' have they got a Crystal Ball or are they using Mystic Meg.

Lol. Who knows. But they seem to think everything can stop until we can remove flags, have rakes, sign each other’s cards etc. Ridiculous. Members are getting pi$$ed off seeing local clubs having their normal comps every week and club champs etc.

We are alternating between medals and stableford each week and they are all qualifiers but all majors, except for the club championship, have been cancelled. As our AGM in March was cancelled, we have not changed captains yet and this will probably not happen until November at the earliest.

Weird. We have flags left in, no rakes (placing within 6 inches in the bunker), sign own card but record playing partners' to check back with each other and not having any issues. It's not perfect, but it's better than no comps, not surprised the members are getting pee'd off!

We are running stablefords, but the decision was taken to abandon all Board comps for the year around six weeks ago.

How did/do you handle 'crowd control' with players coming from afar?
In what sense? Players will come to these from either within the county or neighbouring county at most. I doubt people come to us from further than that.

We have a pretty big car park, a decent sized upstairs bar and a downstairs spike bar that means we can fit quite a number of 4 balls on a table with space between them and other groups. If you accept a degree of rotation, finish, sit in the bar for an hour, leave etc, you probably only need to cope with 7 groups per time in the clubhouse. We have plenty of space to cope with that.

We started running comps in mid july. Largely continuing with our original timetable with a few important comps rescheduled from earlier in the year.

The major difference is that, rather than folks entering and a draw being made with all tee times in a block, players can book a tee time any time throughout the day and play in the comp. Scorecards are processed the next day rather than immediately after the comp.

We're running competitions every week now - but only 3 people entered this week. Last week it was 5. We've not had many proper 'named' comps if you like, it's been August medal, August Stableford, etc. Not sure what the plans are for the 'majors' i.e. captain's day, club champs etc. I'm not sure it's worth bothering at the moment, given that some members are disillusioned that the council have cancelled the season tickets, and not made it very easy for us to get tee times.

We have comps, medals and also what they call opt-in stablefords instead of roll ups. All tee times still need to be booked. Club champs have taken place and other events like the Pro-Am and Captains Day are going ahead with social distancing and the new normal precautions.

All competitions back running at my club with all our majors running consecutively through September and October.

We have begun to allow players to do individual cards in the normal way but will also take one card from a group if anyone has a problem with that. We have particularly vocal members on both sides on the fence so had to go to both options to try and keep the peace.
