Comp rounds to enter “majors”

Not really.
I know there are people on here who love to argue the toss about almost anything I say so my post just means they can't argue if I don't give any opinion.
And yet, here you are arguing because I haven't given an opinion, kind of proves my point.
If you think me pointing out your post is attention seeking and pointless then you don’t know what an argument is and have proved nothing !

Anyway enjoy your not posting but posting I’m off to enjoy a lovely Autumnal day 😘

Everyone is entitled to their own view.

Mine is .
If your a member of a golf club and can’t be bothered to get at least 8 qualifying cards in 12 months then why should clubs allow you to play in their opens.

Playing for expensive prizes needs a qualifying criteria, and clubs have been to lax in the past allowing the sandbaggers to just clean up.

It shows they don’t trust WHS handicaps imo.
Doesn't it merely show that they don't trust people?

I agree, but it hampers where me and the wife can play, as she does not want to play in comps at her place. I don't think she actually likes the damn game, and only plays coz I make her. Lol

Lancaster is one such place. It's stopped us playing there as they want three, I think, comp cards in. Shame as I love playing there, and we combine it with a long weekend in the town.

Mine are home clubs comp, nothing external.
Presumably, what are often called 'board comps' ?

Our's are:
To win a Board Competition a player must have:
• returned a minimum of 12 acceptable scores.
• of those 12 cards, 6 acceptable scores must have been returned within in the 12 months prior to the date of the competition or draw.
• of those 6 acceptable scores, 3 must have been competition cards.

Isn’t this the issue? Btw the original post was about clubs internal comps, not opens, so there were no prizes at stake just the “bragging rights” 🙃
Always thought expensive prizes should be banned a free fourball should suffice.
Just a good day out .

It’s £140 for the Saturday comps at my club.

But most opens as quoted by LT are going to this.

I came third in a seniors open up in Scotland last year. My prize was a four-ball back there. Very happy with that, we love the course, I go with two others. It means we get to play it twice next year, we will be back for the open again as well.

Not sure if I have said this before.

Where I play we have a lot of member organised swindles/roll ups.

Would someone please explain the difference between a card returned from playing in one of these as compared to a card returned from playing in a club organised comp.

Personally I cannot see any difference but obviously one will show up on a players record as a comp and the other as as GP card.

On my own record the vast majority of scores come from playing in such swindles.
