Comp rounds to enter “majors”

That's ridiculously high. I didn't even play 10 comps all last year - some weekends it just doesn't work out, I'm playing Saturday, comp is only on Sunday, etc. My club just requires 8 competitions played in the last 12 months which is fine.
I’m with you seems ridiculous to impose such a thing. Especially as many people have lives outside of golf clubs.

I think at a push I might manage 10 in a year comps wise no chance making 10 out of the last 20!

Do these "comps" requirements include comps at other clubs/courses, or are they only at your home club?
Don’t have any further details but would assume it’s the latter. Wouldn’t make much difference to most, I’d imagine.

Our club has similar rules, so I just checked my status... I played in 27 competitions last year, didn't realise it was that many! We have 3 competitions out of the 5 Saturdays in November, so I guess we get used to competitions more often than not without realising it.

I played 39 individual club comps from April to September this year. I don't submit any GP scores.
I also got a Score Differential of 2.6 (my lowest on current record of 20) for a better-ball club comp in September.

40 scores in 6 months.

Doesn’t the expression mean that such a proposal would ‘sink without a trace’ - a bad thing for a proposal as opposed to flying - a good thing for a proposal?

Never understood this phrase. I would have thought a lead balloon would have gone down really well. Going up would be a problem!
In my opinion it is one of those well known phrases used to show the opposite of what it is wanted or expected.

I agree with you, e.g. when the phrase 'the balloon has gone up' means something has gone seriously wrong.

Some Opens ask for at least 3 scores to be from competitions at your club. Bit of a pain for us. On another note Wallasey mixed 2026 already full. Cooo. Only played in once. God its tough

My club has just announced that next year's opens will require 8 competition rounds in order to win a prize. It doesn't say the time period or whether it's within your current 20 but it's following the other opens in the area. Hopefully they'll be more precise when announced properly

Pretty much all of the opens I play in have this stipulation now (in one form or another)

I think my personal view would be unpopular and would cause an argument so I'll keep it to myself
Why post the comment then if you’re not going to actually say what you view is. Just a click bait post for attention ?

Just give your view and create discussion that’s what we’re all here for.

Everyone is entitled to their own view.

Mine is .
If your a member of a golf club and can’t be bothered to get at least 8 qualifying cards in 12 months then why should clubs allow you to play in their opens.

Playing for expensive prizes needs a qualifying criteria, and clubs have been to lax in the past allowing the sandbaggers to just clean up.

It shows they don’t trust WHS handicaps imo.

Because I'm not going to be responsible for yet another argument on here.
I'm sure there are some people on here who know my opinion and maybe share it and if they want to discuss it, fair enough.

Then there was zero point posting the comment in the first place and has added nothing to the discussion. If that’s how you feel then simply not posting anything rather than what you did makes more sense 🤷🏼

Like I said Click Bait!
