Snapped my 9 wood today .it was very old and as I took a swing the head flew down the fairway.

Looking for another one but wondered what is the diff between a 9 wood and a 24* hybrid ?

Cheers

Did you recover the head? If it a 'favourite' then have you considered reshafting it?

9 wood (and Callaway used to make a 'Divine 9') is normally 28+ degrees so a bit weaker lofted than a 24* hybrid (which is about a 5 iron replacement). Whether it's actually weaker also depends on the relative weight of the 2 heads as there is quite a bit of scope in hybrid design for either large mass/forgiveness/high flight or lower mass/flight!

If you are looking at a hybrid to replace it, RickG might well have a 26* Adams available that should be pretty similar! Very versatile (from Tee, Fairway and all sorts Rough) and forgiving the couple of times I borrowed it!

Hybrid will have a shorter shaft, which may lead to more control
The hybrid will also put a bit less spin on the ball.
If you're a slower swinger the fairway tends to give more distance, not just because of the longer shaft but also the extra spin that keeps the ball in the air longer.

Nine wood? Does your husband know you play? Mocking aside if it's a favourite get it reshafted. Have you tried any hybrids lately? Give a few a bash and then decide if you want the old faithful or step into the light with a hybrid

Having watched your swing, I just wondered if you'd be better off with leaving the head off ?? :smirk:

Cheers for the info mate. The 9 wood defiantly had 24* on it. The pro shop are going to lend me a few to try. Both hybrid and a XR 9 wood they have in.

A wood has the weight at the back and a longer shaft, and the hybrid the weight at the front. The former will hit the ball further, the latter more control

I've an older MD 11 wood at 27° in the spares bag and it goes a similar distance to my 6 yr old 25° hybrid but I've a newer 27° hybrid that outstrips them both & a TM RBZ 25° hybrid that goes as far as a 4yr old 22° Cobra hybrid (4 of these 5 have a very similar shaft length)

Reading it back I guess that doesn't really help, sorry
