at 6ft 6 i currently use standard clubs, how much of an affect would this have on my game in comparison to having fitted clubs?

Ive hit low scores with my standard clubs and played some great golf, im jus wondering what difference it can really make

I'm 6'1" and got clubs fitted half an inch longer than standard, but as has been said, it all depends on whether you are all legs or all arms! ;)

Also worth pointing out that custom fitting varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. For example, a half inch longer 2 degrees upright Mizuno club could be completely different from a half inch longer 2 degrees upright Ping club.

I am also 6ft6 and I cannot believe that you haven't had a set customised for you. There will be a world of difference! Your posture over the ball must be pretty slumped and you propbably bend your legs more than you need to. Getting longer shafts (with the correct flex) will also add distance because of the bigger arc created. Get to a pro now!!!!!!! Are you still reading? Get going!!!

Hi,
I'm almost 6'2" & play with standard length shafts in Ping Zing 2's.
Recently played locally where Taylor Made were doing a 'fitting' day so I tried their new R11's.
It soon became clear that, FOR ME, I hit the ball soooooooo much better with shafts that were 3/4" longer
and 2 degrees upright. The difference was immediate & blindingly obvious.
If I were you I'd definitely have a custom fitting session, it MIGHT make more of a difference than you'd think, it did for me!

Slime.

I'm 6'3" and those are the exact specs that I have for my Cobra S3 irons.

Most players of that height would have over length clubs, but depends on your arm length and posture. An online static fitting guide such as Pings will give you an idea but a proper fitting is probably necessary.

Not surprisingly, standard clubs tend to fit standard players. It wont cost alot to have a fitting session and see what they say. Go for it is my advice and then make the decision once you can compare fitted clubs to your standard set.

I agree.

My playing partner from the 1990s played with regular length kit when we were both off about 18. He went to Titleist and got fitted for irons (DCi) and his game improved dramatically really quick. He was 6'5" and it made such a difference.

Oh, and yes, he did hit it further (the bar steward.....)

Yeah, but thats because Ping assume the arthritis prevents you from bending ;)

I'm the other way 5'6" with long arms. Told I needed 1" shorter half a degree flat. But I play with standard length with2* flat. Dont take much if any divet as I tend to sweep with all clubs.

Pretty much the same as most of the other lads.

6ft 3 - got fitted for 1/2 inch longer shafts and 2 degrees upright.

I think I could get away with the standard length, for me the real difference came with the lie adjustment. The less I knew about how properly to setup for a good shot the better I could hit the standard clubs.

As soon as I started trying to get the correct posture, setup and swing I was topping/slicing...etc

The difference for me has been huge.
