If I may be so bold as to ask...

How much do you guys pay for your golf? HID would need some persuading but I thought it might be easier to take a straw poll on here and then broach the subject rather then ringing around every club in the county!

I'm not a member anywhere so weekly green fees add up, I'm sure it would be cheaper to join a club! Thanks in advance, and sorry ti discuss money in such times!

The club I have just joined is £550 a year for me. If I was 30 or over it would be £750 per year!

Before I joined I was payin £30 a knock, you only have to go approx 17 times and you have broke even, I get that in in a month!!! :D

£550 for me too! £70 when i joined at £40 per month after that.

Not bad at all really as in the summer I play every weekend and probly 9 holes twice after work during the week. I've even been playing once a week during the winter so my membership has more than paid for itself this year.

Bet I'm the most expensive - £1340 for 7 day membership but that gives me unlimited golf and no pre-booking (except on a competition day which I'm normally playing in.

I play every weekend Saturday and Sunday. Taking out a few weeks for bad weather lets say 40 weekends per year (x 2 = 80 rounds). I work flexi and play in at least the midweek medal and stableford each month so lets say 2 competitive rounds midweek x 5 (May-Sept = another 10). Add the roll ups in the evenings (say 1 a week for 12 weeks i.e. 3 months = another 12 rounds)

So that is 102 rounds minimum / 1340 = £13.13 per round so I think I get value for money. The problem we have is that we are surrounded by other expensive clubs (The Berkshire, East Berks, Bearwood, Wentwort, Mill Ride etc) and we are also on a 10 business plan drawn up when we moved to the new course which is reliant on xx number of members. At the end of the day I'd rather play a decent track whenever I fanced rather than queueing on a cheaper municipal or having to travel further afield (Ascot is 10 minutes away)

Phew, thanks Homer - I was starting to feel ripped off at £850 (£350 joining fee for newbies)

For that I do get two 18 hole and a cracking little 9 hole Par 3 course though.

Actually I do the club a slight injustice. It is £1280 for the green fee, £60 for my big locker rental (essential so my clubs are ready for me when I commute after work in the Summer) and £50 compulsory bar levy (which has normally gone within a couple of months anyway)

Homer, if you are the most expensive, I guess I am the cheapest.
Free golf almost anywhere in the world.
Although it cost me £4,500 for the privelege and £360 a year to stay a member of the PGA, so I guess not totally free.
My first freebie was at Wentworth where 3 of us, all pros had a quiet Tuedsay afternoon knock round the big course, free of charge which would have cost us £795 if we weren't pros. Thats £265 EACH. There are some perks for being a pro :)
I wonder who has paid the most for 18 holes of golf?
any takers? We wont tell HID ;)

I played the West many years ago (my club pro and me - I got on free - not sure how but my pro was always a bit of a wheeler dealer) the Tuesday after the world matchplay. We played off the whites (weren't allowed of the tiger tees) and even then some 25 years ago I struggled with the length and it wasn't even that long by those days standards.

I'm not sure i've ever paid more than about £75 to play anywhere.

Currently I pay more than I'd rather & less than I might for the fees available around here.

In with the current fees I can actually make full use of health & fitness facilities too. Thing is I'm not currently making the use of either the golf or the health & fitness I'd like to. But this is mainly down to the inclement weather, repeated bouts of cold/flu & a very dodgy knee, which seems to be healing nicely (caused by work).

Thing is about club memberships is that you need to really use them throughout the year to their full extent to get value for money.

Really not sure what I'm going to do when my two memberships come up for re-newal in April & May respctively.

Either way I need to start getting a few rounds in from this next week, good weather or bad.

I generally look to pay less than £15 a round in average. Any more than that & I don't consider membership to be value for money.

If you have plenty of mates who you can call on to play golf with then using 2for1 vouchers are probably a better solution, especially if you like to experience lots of different courses.

Full membership of the club I am joining in April is £841.00 plus an additional £750.00 joining fee...

There is no way I can afford that at the moment so am joining under their "Fairways" membership scheme which is aimed at people in full time employment who can't get to the club as often as they would like.
This can be paid by either a straight £550.00 payment, or an initial payment of £275.00 plus 9 subsequent monthly payments of £35.00. There is no joining fee with this membership category.
Fairways membership entitles you to 25 pre-paid vouchers which can be used at anytime to play. I can enter competitions but have to wait 7 days before I can put my name up for them to give full members a fair crack of the whip (which I think is fair). I can invite guests to the course and have all the full members rights and access to the club. If I want to play more than my 25 rounds I can purchase extra vouchers from the pro shop at £25.00 each. I don't think this is too bad because if I went to play at Highwoods today, as a visitor, it would cost me £40.00 a round! My application has gone in, just waiting to get the call to interview. Fingers crossed.

We're at around £530 this year (Mar09-Feb10) and a £60 levy for our new clubhouse loans.

Not too bad for a club in Edinburgh. I would certainly baulk at some of the prices you guys down South are being asked to pay for your golf. It is a differnt game you are playing down there. Up here there are some places where a family can pay £600-700 subs for two adults and two kids! No wonder so many Scos play golf.

Not cheap, but then again, I never have to even wait to get on the tee, and its probably the premier Club in my area.

:)
