Clean air zones

Hybrids been around for decades

They should have been forced to be the only type of engine sold from 2020 or something... Was it Volvo stopped making cars without them?

Reduce emissions (non plug in ones) and use less fuel
Toyota were / are the hybrid kings.

Volvo stopped offering diesel engines in any new version of a car. They still offer diesels in existing models.

Refining hybrids, improving them, is probably the sensible middle ground but that wasn't the route chosen, sadly.

Have to admit I'm fully commited to the EV cause now. It helps a lot where I live having off street parking, a semi decent charge network (that I've never used) I figure once the Corsa goes and I buy the Kia for the more space the kids will be older so for example today we did 120 miles .. easily EV (the Kia does 250)

The air port run last week, would have worked

Finding less and less trips I "need" the Alhambra for.. other than just fitting us in (for another year or so, seats getting smaller for the kids) problem I have is there is nothing wrong with it. It meets ulez, and I don't want to buy another ICE car so will be a while before I save to buy a second EV

We’re on our second hybrid. The first was a Kia Niro. Lovely car, and no doubt there were savings in terms of fuel economy but they felt negligible. Our second is a Toyota Yaris. In terms of savings AND performance, it’s a revelation.

Two people in the Yaris, on the flat, it’s on electric up to around 45mph. At least 95% of our journeys are done on electric - all local, short distance stuff. I put about €40 - €45 of petrol in about every 10-12 weeks. An annual fuel bill of around €170. I do wonder how many times I’d be charging it if it was a full EV, and at what cost.

Edit: lousy maths on my part. Not €450/yr, it’s around €170.

My sister still has her Yaris hybrid as the only car in her family

Think it's 10 plus years old now she got it just after I got my hybrid which was a 2011 plate

Still going strong , if she hadn't just had a kid I doubt they would be looking at changing (boot space)

We only got rid of our Toyota because the Inside space got really bad when we had our first

Still one the longest I've owned a car , 7 years I believe I had it , the savings driving around town were ridiculous

It's the same with ev, hit any kind of traffic and then your winning .. use bugger all fuel .. there are days I've crawled home from work and it's used bearly 8% rather than the normal 11-12%

We’ve been 4 adults and 2 suitcases for a few days away several times.

How many times do you charge your EV, and at what cost? Just trying to get a feel for costs for when we change in a few years time…

I do 12,000 miles per year

I charge per night just to always be the same but could go 2 days minimum without charging

Cost is 9.5p a kw in the cheap rate

My 50 mile journey to and from work costs me about £1

£240 a year roughly to do the 12000 miles

My sister is on to her 3rd Yaris, this is her first hybrid version. She loves it, gets mid to high 60'smpg. I've been a passenger in it, 1 of 4 adults, and it lacked for nothing.

The shame is, I wouldn't blink at going to a hybrid, not plug in as they seem a real smoke and mirrors job, but a full EV doesn't come close to being suitable for me right now. Surely the very fact of using far less fuel has to be a big positive and it would allow mfrs to improve the cleaning and filtering aspect of engines at the same time. As it is, mfrs have given up on that, can't blame them.

I'm guessing petrol is cheaper in Spain? I do 3000 miles in the Alhambra on average at average 40 mpg and diesel being £1.50 ish it works out £500 a year for 3000 miles

3rd time this one has been hit, it’s near the Upminster crematorium, very close to the edge of the ULEZ. Guess people don’t like having to pay to visit the graves of their loved ones…

An argument I never understood, just how often are you going to see them? £12.50 a week? A month?

Going to work I get the implications but going to a grave? Perfectly good bus service there

Neighbours camper van is not compliant. But it is just standing there all year. Then it is £12.50 leaving on holiday, and £12.50 coming back. That’s 4 pints over a long trip.

I guess the annoying thing is that we are ~400m in the zone only.

Exactly that's hardly an issue but annoying they are "just" in the zone. Not worth upgrading for such a small use

Friend of ours comes to Havering twice a month, he said it's cheaper to keep his car than get a new one with higher tax aswell so will just do that

I feel for people actually effected by increased cost to go to work

But all this what about someone who drives 2 times a month for something .. we it just got £25 a month more expensive... Especially when you read the rubbish articles that claim haverings air quality is good

It's awful .. people just don't want to accept their cars are causing an issue

But pay £12.50 and you can pollute as much as you want

Not to worry the charge will creep up and up whilst people upgrade to cleaner cars no doubt

Good on somebody doing something about air quality

Apart from near your golf course I think the air quality in Havering’s is good. 😄
I do visit most of its parks walking the dog so maybe that’s why I think that.
