I'm just back from a day of clay pigeon shooting and WOW! I've always wanted to shoot clays but none of my close friends ever fancied it, with my brother getting married next week we headed out for a days shooting as a bit of a stag do.
The power of a 12 gauge is a lot stronger than I thought it would be, it really does give you a good punch in the shoulder. I was hesitant of 60 clays not being enough but it was just the right amount. I'm a fairly sturdy bloke (Read powerfully built, lmao) and I was glad to be finished.
The day started off pretty well with me shooting the first 9 clays perfect on the double trap. Kinda went down hill after that but loved every second of it.
If its something you've never done before, you need to get yourself to a shoot.

Used to do a lot of clay (1000) shells a week and was on the point of trailing for teams but gave it all up. It is a good although an expensive way to lose a few hours!

I have had shotguns (and rifles) for over 20 years and yes I agree, a days clay shooting can be great fun.

The best days I have had at clays were on simulated game shoots in the summer. This is when some of the more famous shoots replicate the best days of their season with loads of clays. Absolutely awesome and for a fraction of the cost.

I'd love to go on a clay shoot.

A pal of mine does it and I'd love to get involved.

I shot as a kid and was quite good. If I had the money I'd take it up now.

I work at a very well known ground for around 12 years now as a groundsman. I really enjoy the job although shooting itself is not my sport. It's becoming very expensive now with the hike in cost of lead and the clay makers are following suit for various reasons.
Helped set some good competitions and its nice to see the guys compete. Shame it will never be a fraction of what golf is in terms of funding and tv coverage but its just boring to watch.
Glad you had a good day and its nice to see a positive thread instead of the usual all guns should be banned which pops up every time a nutta has a field day.
