Clapped my driver on the range roof support.....

I thjink thats the bare minimum that will have gone on :p

You know when you hear a car crash, even on TV when they are doing a test and after it all over there is this moment when everything goes quiet as one takes stock of how nasty and shocking all that nice was... that what this was like. Followed by two grown men bending over double and saying "gutted, gutted" "Im gutted for you bro" and so on....

There is chatter marks on my wedges and irons, driver is dented, there is some shaft rash on my hybrid, the 3 wood is skyed... I am a big boy and soon I am going to be hitting the ball like Fundy.... No not from a cast or Dr office.... :D

I have to be totally honest and say that in this situation, if Fragger had smacked his SLDR like this, there would be tears from me.....

I'd be wetting myself........:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

I want to believe that then Phil would show you the head up close and the two of you would both rip your tops off and scrap hard like two ice hockey players!!!.... You know I think I would pay money for that! :whoo:

Anyhow, if it happened to Phil it would have been just one of many drivers he has been through in the last little while....

People who move mats on driving ranges should be locked up IMO.

I have seen some horrors in my time.
One total ninkumpoop even pulled a mat far enough back into the range [to avoid rain] his swing was likely to take the head off anyone passing behind. He then proceeded to argue the toss with me for interfering with his practice.

At any decent range, mats are set centre, and safe for right and left handed players.
Many golfers using a range will be new to the game and if the numpty before him has moved the mat to suit his eccentric swing the guy following may not realise it needs adjusting. Some weaker players may not be strong enough to shift mats.

All correct but in my case this was not what happened... :o

I did not want to use the nasty rubber tee so was putting my own tee in the mat, that lovely pink castle had crept forward in my stance and forward in the mat :o.

I did the exact same thing with my then new R580 driver. I was gutted and couldn't believe the bay wasn't big enough to swing a club in. If it helps I played with the damaged club for 2 or 3 years. It was one of the best drivers I ever had.

One of the guys i pay with regularly got himself a new Rocket Ballz just before Christmas.
He decided to go to the local range to get used to it, twanged it 2nd ball as someone a had moved the mat and he's left handed.

Has a massive dent in the back and all the tippex has come off:0

I was having a driver fitting last Thursday and smacked an adams driver off of the roof support behind me on my follow through.
I've hit clubs off things in bays a good few times.

the bays are too small IMO.

This is quite simple, you make sure the mat is just away from the side of the bay and with a normal swing plane you wont hit anything.Trouble is people cant be bothered to rearrange the mat when they enter the bay and adjust it from how the last user had it.In 24 years of using ranges with bays ive never had a problem.Nobody wants a damaged club, they literally become worthless....

Not so simple when the bay is too small. After I damaged my driver I had a good look and the bay I was using was a good deal smaller than the others. It was a poor range tbh and I think some ranges just try to cram too many bays in. I think you have a right to expect each bay to be big enough without danger of hitting part of the building structure if used responsibly. The range should be fit for purpose. Once bitten and all that. I always avoid the bays with pillars "behind" you as you address the ball now.
